So if you've got that hankering to fly Jetstar to Asia, nows your chance :D

Some interesting things I've noticed.

One-Way fares seem to be available (eg ~$575 to BKK from SYD for cheapest [Jetsaver], ~$818 [JetFlex], and ~$1120 for StarClass). A nice change from the fixed return fares and one way penalties.
StarClass seems to be about double the cheapest Qantas Sale fares.
You can prepay for food, pillow/blanket/amenity kit, Entertainment and excess baggage in Economy. Seems to be complementary in StarClass.
StarClass tickets are very flexible. JetFlex are reasonably flexible.

This looks to be pretty interesting from a FF point of view: (Jetstar - Qantas Frequent Flyer)

"Qantas Frequent Flyers travelling on a Jetstar StarClass fare for flights operated by Jetstar (JQ) will earn equivalent points per mile and Status credits as earned on Qantas business flights. Qantas Frequent Flyers travelling on a Jetstar JetFlex fare for flights operated by Jetstar (JQ) will earn equivalent points per mile and Status credits as earned on Qantas flights. Both the 1000 point minimum earn and Status bonus for Silver, Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyer members will apply to these fare types. Click here, to find out more details on what Status credits are and how they are earned. Please note that JetFlex fares earn at the full economy level.
"

See the fare classes and conditions here:

(Note according to rumours that there will be a launch sale today. The sale isn't loaded yet - probably will be loaded early this morning when people start arriving at work... )

I thought the plan had been to offer a meal service, IFE etc to all passengers? Must have imagined that.

Hopefully they'll have some good sale fares. $1150 SYD-BKK-SYD isn't exactly a good deal (even QF is cheaper than that... for now anyway)

Their Star Class fare to SYD is slightly cheaper than t BAs WT+. Just picking some random dates, BA comes out at $1800 r/t vs $1670 for JQ , however BA has a daily service vs JQs 3 times weekly

Also note that for 'Star Class', Qantas Frequent Flyers travelling on flights operated by Jetstar (JQ) will earn equivalent points per mile and Status credits as earned on Qantas business flights.

That's not a bad $/SC ratio (~$1670/240=~7), you can do generally do better with a DONEx; and it certainly better than WT+ ...

However, I think I would prefer JQ's Star Class to BA's WT+, especially if crediting to QF FF program. StarClass seems to earn at QF Business Class rates (SCs, points) while WT+ earns Y SCs and 10% cabin bonus.

But if crediting to AAdvantage or another OneWorld program, JQ is not going to be attractive.

And of course it depends what IFE JQ end up with in Star Class. Personal DVD player would be nice, while BA has loop programs (AVOD still a way off for their 744 and 777 fleet as they are starting with 767 fleet).

PER-MEL-DPS $257 ($418 all-in)
DPS-MEL-PER $7 (148 all-in)

Not too shabby, but direct flights might be nice.

Regarding the IFE..I have asked a mate at QF with some knowledge
as the a/cfrt are Dom A330-200 the drop down main cabin screens. Movies and audio similar to Dom will be avail to all for the price of a headset (grab one when next you fly Dom on an A330 and it wont cost you anything otherwise you'll pay abot $3.00 for a headset.
The other IFE I believe is the Digiplayer used by JQ and DJ which have a number of movies /TV/music and you can expect to pay 10.00 or so for that
although FOC in star class
The aircraft is in Dom config so not as squeezy as JQ dom flights
cheers

.

Possibly; the limited frequency of services would be a minus to me; also if selecting a connecting route it came up with a JQ flight domestic too which doesnt appeal .

sorry should have mentioned JQ are actually codesharing on QFD
so when you see a JQ service from BNE-SYD connecting to DPS it is actually a QF dom service. The plus side is it is a QFD service and you will get fed and watered for free but the poss downside unless yr buying higher fare levels with JQ you wont get the FF points for the qantas Dom service. Also yr bags will be auto transferred between the JQ codeshare service and the JQ Int service

Kiwi Flyer referred to problems with the JQ site. I'm tired of trying to get it to work and my poor little computer has just learned some new colourful words.

Having had my moment of computer rage, just reading the posts indicates that this might be OK. I'd just like to be able to research it on the JQ site personally:!:

So that means two video systems at once to chse from.

I am flying bali Mel return and so good news apart the QF codeshare legs have auto transference of luggage. I deliberately chose the QF codeshares as I was hoping for extra benefits...but did not realise this would be one of them.

...and if you are flying StarClass, which cabin do you end up in on the domestic leg?

in the launch sale you'll travel y on the QFD flight but post sale with everyday pricing it will be J in the DOM (I finally got thru to JQ res and asked that question)and connect to starclass on the JQI
A mate in PER is looking fwd to the price to HNL.It will depned on the flight times ex SYD or MEL you cud end up on a 747 persyd or permel to connect
only time will tell

Now I am vaguely tempted to try out their StarClass BNE-KIX. It works out to be about $2100 inc tax return (that seems to be the normal fare, not the promo), instead of almost $5000 return on QF business class on BNE-KIX (which is in fact codeshared with JAL subsidiary JALways in their old airframe without individual screen etc anyway).

SC ratio works out to be much more decent than QF business class BNE-KIX.

I was actually surprised that they are giving people QF business class SC & points on StarClass.

I was surprised too. I was expecting them to pay full Y points and SCs for StarClass. For once as generous enhancement to the QF FF program .

Hooray I can finally see fares and schedules.

Shame the introductory specials are sold out before I could even access the site properly

Note you get those Full Y SC's for the JetFlex fares.

Qantas experienced considerable backlash from many of it's upper level frequent flyers over no points & SC's for the original Domestic JQ flights and had to rethink; eventually giving full Y level for JetFlex.

Maybe they have learned from this and are making sure it doesn't happen this time with the new international structure.

Then again, JQ (Qantas) do have for more competition in Frequent Flyer Rewards schemes internationally than domestically.
