JetStar International Upgrade Options

I don't know about the emails but they are selling them at check-in again. You have to hope there is seats left though.
Oh this is interesting! Any insights on how this works and what pricing is like? Is it a matter of first come, first serve?

Sure thing. I ask while checking in but you could go straight to the service desk I imagine. If there's space they will process it right away. It's about $300 or $350 and I suspect handled on a first come first served basis. It doesn't get you a max bundle so no points or lounge access.

Thanks so much!

I flew MEL-SGN v.v. last week and there were spare J seats but I didn't even bother asking since I knew they had previously stopped doing upgrades at the airport, and when they did do them previously there were weird caveats such as needing to visit the airport the day before and so on.

I have more JQi 787 flights coming up in a few weeks so I'll give it a crack.

Hope you don't mind me bringing up an old thread but the subject seemed appropriate for my question.

If my work buys me a "Starter" fare (that doesn't earn Qantas points) as it's the cheapest priced ticket, but I want to earn Qantas points - can I upgrade my ticket after it's been purchased (eg pay the price difference) to get a version of the ticket that earns Qantas points?

I couldn't see anywhere on the Jetstar website that talks about this.

Nope, once a starter fare is purchased it's not possible to change to a fare with a bundle. The fare rules clearly state no changes to fare type are allowed:

If you want a bundle added then it needs to be done at time of booking. Obviously best to work with your corporate travel agent/booking person but they may have a process which allows them to book a fare with the bundle, they pay the starter amount and you pay the bundle difference.

But then further down it says:
"Permitted fare/bundle changes
Subject to payment of Change Fee applicable at the time of booking and Fare Difference applicable at time of change, Starter fares can be changed to an available Starter fare, Starter fare with Flex bundle, Starter fare with Plus bundle, Starter fare with Max bundle, Business Class fare or Business Class fare with Max bundle"

You would 'change' your flight to the same flight, pay the change fee, pay any fare difference and add a bundle.

The change fee alone is already $70 per domestic sector so that might be enough of a deterrent.

The T&Cs also say that you forfeit the right to get a voucher refund on a max bundle if you go through the above route but I assume that is not an issue for you.
