Just a brief one - I had my first JQ flight yesterday and it was exactly as bad as I expected - very cramped, uncomfortable (maybe due to the CoS next to me :(). Sadly I have the reverse flight (WLG-AKL) tonight :(

I certainly know that netx time I will forsake the FF points/SCs and fly on Air NZ domestically in NZ...

Yeah with the recent Jetstar change with the QFF program I decided to try them from AKL to SYD. Never again... cramped, dark, passengers who aren't business travellers (who i find are better with the etiquette side of things).

I'll go back to AirNZ... why I even considered Jetstar over AirNZ is beyond belief... I need to punch myself in the face for punishment...

simongr, did you fly LAN to AKL on this trip? I'd be interested to hear how that was if you did.

cheers

TH

My cousin flew J* from PER to SYD on the red-eye and the seats would not recline. That was enough for me to say that I will never fly them.

Was that in Y or J?

These comments about JQ pops up now and again. I am a fan-boy for JQ and have always had a positive experience with them. I usually fly in on their 332's long haul Y product and the hard product is as good as any full service carrier minus the personal IFE. Some people I know who are irregular flyers and fly JQ anticipate the worst (because of what they hear) but always come back and say positive things about their experience. I know a few folks here dislike JQ and would never ever fly witth them for whatever reason, that's fine, but then most of the folks here fly too much and often in nicer cabins, again that's fine :)JQs 332's are as nice and new as any 332 I have been in, service has always on or above my level of expectation and I have no problem whatsoever flying in their Y seat. (I however do not like their J/sc cabin and do not recommend them, but then I will not recommend any Y+ seating on any airline. I believe one either should fly real J or normal Y).

Let us know how the second flight goes.

simongr AKL-WLG trip would have been in a NZ domestic 320.

I don't think anyone has much of a problem with JQ's hard or soft product (at least compared with other Y). Our problem is with the other passengers that JQ attracts. You know there's a problem when people are smashing through tinnies of Jim Beam on a 6:00AM flight. They pack a rugby scrum to get on and off the plane. They bring two or three carry on bags that are each over the size and weight limit. They whinge that "this is buuulllshiiiiit" when they aren't provided first class service for their rock-bottom fare. They have poor personal hygiene. They don't control their children. They have no respect for other people. Maybe I've just had bad experiences because I only fly JQ to Darwin on flights that continue to Bali. :D

mate, get over it.
you took off and landed...its just a dom flight.

Last year flew with SWMBO AKL-ZQN on NZ, but caught JQ back ZQN-AKL.

I didn't really say anything to SWMBO (it was her first time on both NZ and JQ).

IMO - the JQ was un-noteworthy, the flight was fine, we had a set of 3 seats to the 2 of us, seated over the wing, flight was uneventful, and the number of landings equalled the number of takeoffs ;)

After we disembarked she turned around to me and said "I now know why you don't like flying JQ".

I asked her to explain her third-party reasoning.....

"Nothing specific - just the general level of treating everyone like cattle, from the boarding gate to the plane, you're just made to feel like you're flying a budget airline and therefore deserve to be treated with budget service".

Of course I agree - but in fairness - the technical hard product and official service offering was much of a muchness with NZ's flight.

Amazing the difference in soft-product impressions can make ;)

Aww... c'mon, you guys exaggerate some times. JQ's not that bad. You check-in (okay, sometimes they're a bit grumpy and focused on enforcing the baggage limit), you board (okay, sometimes they get rows 1-15 to step aside), you get on the plane (okay, sometimes the FA at the door ignores you... but hey, why do the other airlines look at your boarding pass anyway...?), the flight takes off (let's hope the pilot checked his seat belt wasn't broken before the door closed! see another post of mine), they serve food (I've never seen someone sculling a JB at 6am.. but hey, why not...?), you land (okay.. sometimes it has been a bit bumpy.. I've got a video to prove it.. ;)) and then you get off... (how long do I have to wait for my luggage...?)

I'm considering paying a bit extra for Business Max from CNS or OOL to KIX in December... it's cheaper than Y on JAL to NRT. The A332's from CNS-OOL haven't been too bad: window seats in the A332 are not too bad really, though not all of them are "new" looking inside anymore. A320s, I am fortunate to get exit row or row 1 enough to make it bearable.

I also recently took my first JQ flight and preferred it to QF in Y class. FAs were welcoming and pleasant and a model for QF FAs. I was quite pleasantly surprised. Seating in Y is always cough, no matter which airline.

Yes it's the riff raffthat worries me the most!!

Heaps of riffraff in business lounges and cabins I've travelled in over the years and recently, so Y class or JQ don't have the monopoly on that by any means. On several occasions I've moved to other parts of the lounge to avoid the riffraff that's to be found there. Very annoyed to find them sitting nearby in the J cabin.

ROFLMAO. I would rather not experience this experience in this lifetime. Perhaps the next one....

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but thanks for the laugh I got from this thread.

My best friend says it's all in my mind, but I will have to show her this thread to prove why not to fly Jetstar (or is it Death* ). ;)
