Sorry to hear that happen. I have learned my lesson recently on TT.

JQ's responsibility ends with getting you to SYD as per their CoC.
When? Next week? The week after? What happens when their next 47 flights are sold out?

If you want to get anywhere stay away from LCC's especially Jetstar....

Sorry John, but legacy carriers can leave you in the lurch as well - QF have had several large delays as of late.

Wasn't there a delayed SYD-HKG service that left after the following days service?

Delays aren't just limited to the LCC's

She booked a flight to get from MEL-SYD on a LCC carrier to get onto an award flight?

I would have at a minimum gone with either QF or VA, but preferably QF and made sure I caught an early flight, even if that required an extra 10, 20 or 50 bucks.

If you make bookings on separate PNR's, you do so at your own risk however she might have a case against the person who advised her.

Check timatic for the the immigration requirements. If you require an onward or return ticket and dont have one the airline may not let you travel regardless of whether immigration officers check on a regular basis.

I intend on getting a return flight before I leave Sydney I was just curious if I didn't book it until I was in Europe would TG not let me board in Sydney ? If what I'm reading is true then TG responsibility ends once they get me to Europe . So whatever I do after that is up to me .

I will look up tinmactic thank you .

well I don't know about this... lets say Thai lets you board in Sydney, but then you are denied uplift in Brussels for Africa? the airline has no way of knowing whether or not you'll be allowed entry into Europe and so they might ask for a return ticket anyway. airlines get a bit edgy allowing one way travel... unless you have some right to stay in that country without restriction. even carrying you to Europe, tg might want a return (unless you have a European passport or work permit etc)

I have a return ticket to Japan. And I will get a ticket out of NRT before I leave in Sydney back to Sydney . I think it should be all ok . Well I hope . I'm just trying to find good availability for (4) pax in J on sq on the way home using FF points. I think UA is the cheapest at 40k.

Also I could possibility get a Croatian citizenship if that will help just in case .

I understand but generally legacy carriers have much better schedules so they are able to recover from cancellations a little better.

With LCCs it is buyer beware and do not have any reasonable expectations that you will get to destination when promised.

it may be a case of 'buyer beware' but that is simply not good enough. we need protections like the EU. Ryanair manages to still give low fares within that regulatory framework, and we need the same here.

on a route like MEL-SYD JQ have many daily departures too. sounds like the OP was cutting it too fine, on that route it should be easy enough to get a last minute flight departing within an hour on one of the airlines....

I agree with you on that point.

You cannot tell someone sorry we are cancelling your flight and wil rebook you in 3 days time. That is not good enough.

and offering a refund doesn't cut the mustard either. on the day if cancellation fares on competitors are likely to be high, especially if a tiger flight is cancelled for example. eu type laws would cover that.
