Can anyone please advise if the Jetstar business cabin seat on flights Melb Sing (typically JQ 8) are truly lie flat beds or just recliners.
Also what is the view (seats /service etc) of business class on Vietnam Airlines that operate the Quantas Mel to Ho Chi Min route.

They are just reclining seats - nothing bed like about them.

Just recliners, quite like QF J domestic (737s)
Can't comment on the other question

IF JQ had lie flat beds they would be telling everyone,

I haven't seen any advertising about it.

The only thing remotely Business Class about JetStar's Business Class is the Status Credits and FF points it earns.

Apart from that in terms of international comparisons it is best to thing of it as a version of premium economy.

As far as I can tell, VN's seats on MEL-SGN are angled lie flat beds on the new planes (they may still be recliners on older ex-Swissair planes) and appear to be the same as those used by Austrian Airlines and Thai.

The post 'Good Morning Vietnam' on Not Quite Nigella has more details on what to expect flying J on VN...

(PS never heard of an airline called 'Quantas' ;))

Flew back on JQ8 this morning and can assure you they are as other posters have described, basic recliner seats. If you can, get 2D or something in Row 1. That way no one can recline onto you.

Happy travelling.

ok, for the older aircraft, but some configs (the newer planes) have a seat in front of 2D

The newest ones have the seat in front of 2D. I think there are 3 planes with this config at the moment, if I'm not mistaken. They are pretty much JQ's replica of the QF dom A332 J cabin.

JetStarve so called J class is pathetic on any route. I did SYD/KIX/SYD, that was enough. Uncomfortable, slippery "leather" seats, jammed together and limited recline. They need to get new aircraft fast!!

The aircraft are OK it is just how they are configured.

Oh, as far as Vietnam Airlines are concerned, I have flown them BKK/SGN/KIX and back, and they are fine. Their big Airbuses are great, but I suspect that J is somewhat subdued, being a Communist driven economy...LOL!

I mean it a bit more than that @straitman. They have no integrated entertainment system, and as far as I am concerned, on long flights, it's a must-have. Those stupid sets you hire ( free in "J") are dangerous projectiles in turbulence!
I am prepared to pay more to get more.:)

ONCE again it's how they are configured, nothing to do with the model of the aircraft itself!

Don't like Jetstar, don't fly them!

Re: Jetstar Business MEL-SIN

Hi,

I accepted Jetstar Business MEL-SIN 01May with my QFF points on the way to Europe.
Terms and Conditions say No Meals unless Business Class, My wife is Gluten Intolerant, Jetstar advise So Sad, to bad, buy your own.
Now reading this thread I find Jetstar Business class means sit reclined.

What about jetstar Business Class actually delivers or is it a farce?
Is there any way to swap back to QF, QFF is not showing any avilable seats?

I am not a big fan of the Digiplayer either. Some of the newer A330's do actually have an integrated seat back IFE, but it is pot luck if you get one of those birds.

Flew up and back last month
To SIN, had an older model with reclining seats and extendable foot rest. Leather seats but DEFINITELY nothing close to lie flat and no AVOD
On way back had a brand new aircraft with built in screens but even less recline and no leg raise. Did manage some sleep but more likely related to two champagne, 3 reds, a port and a Bailey's - it was Christmas Eve!!
Premium economy at best. Nothing like business class!

Maybe im dumb but wouldnt it make economic sense to put two or 4 beds up the front and charge a business-like price for the beds? I cant be sleep deprived for medical reasons and would be happy to pay for a flat bed even with no service to Hawaii, I cant be the only one.

JQ 7 was no problem for our family of four. Being a day flight departing at 11.00, none of us needed/wanted to sleep.
The business class service was very nice. Menus, napkins, glassware, crockery, cutlery etc. Dessert trolley, liquers and quality wines.
You should be fine.

This is exactly what AirAsia X have. They pulled out their 'premium economy' style business seats and put in less flat beds.
