In another thread I wondered whether I could upgrade from Economy to *class from Narita. http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...ges-jq-departure-upgrade-prices-18077-21.html

I asked at the airport and the CSO said that it wasn't possible due to the Japanese Government putting a stop to it, however, he said that they were reintroducing it from next week. I just missed out but got an exit row instead.

Does anyone know what the reason was for the Japanese Government stopping them in the first place?

It sounds like an excuse you were given just to get you moving on so that checkin person could serve next customer.

It has been my experience that staff who are remunerated on checkin in a certain number of people per hour, dealing with x calls per hour etc etc will say anything to move on to the next person.

I was told the same thing in CNS before I left last week and he had no one else waiting. He was very pleasant and helpful and was the person who okayed our exit row seats about 15mins later.

No not just an excuse to move pple along, it was a govt restriction. But unsure as to why though.

I did read the reason either here or somewhere else and can't remember why. Now it's bugging me!
