So just got back from a great Honolulu trip, flying up on Qantas business class and coming back on Jetstar starclass. Both flights were fine, was pleasantly surprised at the high standard of service on the Jetstar flight.
However, have a problem with excess baggage charged by Jetstar. We checked in 4 bags when returning from Honolulu and were told that we were 17kgs over and would need to pay 10kg of excess baggage charges. Managed to get the agent to agree to 8kgs at a cost of $160. Wasn't till i got on the plane that i started thinking that we couldn't have possibly be over by 17kgs as i had weighed the bags in the hotel. When we transferred to a Qantas domestic flight in Sydney I checked the weight of the bags and they totalled 67kg meaning that we were only over by 7kgs and not 17kgs as claimed by the Jetstar agent. Looks like she miscalculated when adding up the weight of the 4 bags.
So pretty peeved at this as only took 8kg on as carry on and could have taken an extra 7kg out to avoid the $160 charge.
Unfortunately my fault for not getting any documentation from Qantas as to the weight of the bags when we transferred in Sydney and there was no one at the Jetstar baggage counter when we arrived in Melbourne.
So my question is does anyone know if Jetstar would have a record of the weight of the bags we checked in, in their system (or Qantas when we transferred to a domestic flight) and more importantly, given Jetstar's record of handling customer complaints, is it worth complaining to them when i don't have any documentation to support my claim?
