Just saw some iteresting footage on ch9 showing a passenger who missed his Jetsstar flight and then pushed through security and onto the front steps of an aircraft and tried to open the front door!

Hard to credit someone could be so stupid. Banned from QF/JQ, perhaps for life, and having to hope VA will carry you in the future.

He must have pushed past the staff at the check in counter at the gate, and then gone through an open door, or pushed through a locked door to get airside. One wonders what systems are in place to set off alarms when this happens.
By the pulling he was doing on the door handle, there must have been one or two bent bits to be replaced.

Apparently so. But the plane was going to SYD

And it wasn't even the right flight. He had tried to board a plane to Sydney.

The plane was examined but apparently not damaged.

The Sydney plane, which the spokesperson said wasn't damaged, was delayed for about an hour and a half while Jetstar found two crew members to replace the injured employees.

He could have ended up trying to open the door on a flight bound for Launceston. Or Broome. Or wherever.

Doesn't change the fact that he was originally booked to go to Adelaide.

Erm yes, my post still stands too ... He was really keen to get to ADL, but the plane he forcibly tried to board was going to SYD, which is deserving of a smiley face

He could have ended up trying to open the door on a flight bound for LST or BME or wherever, which doesn't change the fact that it is deserving of a smiley face as it wasn't ADL.

I've never understood how they police this? Given there is no need to put in a DOB or show identity at check in on domestic services how is "Barry Smith" who gets banned for life identified and stopped in the system over all the other "Barry Smith's" flying.

I have also always wondered this, for international this info is obviously required, but surely domestic deserves the same level of security and identity verification?

You'd think one day face recognition on boarding may address this, but I really don't think it can be policed adequately. I was thinking the same thing after pie face man (on AJ) and how his ban would be enforced - unless it was tied to QFF # which you would think would probably be marked somewhere and you'd have to be a doodle if attempting to fly again on the same carrier and using said identity marker.

Who know's, perhaps they do monitor all the "Barry Smith's" that come through and then do some manually reviewing such as phone number, departure/destination based on previous habits, possibly CC # and if enough matches either contact directly or alert the gate/staff.

If it were not a significant # of banned people it might be doable, but if there are > 1000, it could be arduous. Wonder how many there really are? Those that are banned tend to make the news, so shouldn't be that many.
