JetStar Syd - coughet

I took a Star Class to coughet last week and it was pretty ordinary.... Certainly not worth the $2000 asking price.

Main meal was very ordinary to and from coughet.
Desert was nice (cheese and fruit platter)
Meat pie was OK... 1000% better than the main meal.

But worst of all, they watered down my gin and tonic! I'd had 3 drinks before it was obvious that they were watering down the gin. Service got slower between each drink (while the wine flowed freely). After the 4th drink (and a 15 minute wait) I was told by the cabin manager that they would have to limit my alcohol...

In 10 years of weekly flying I've never had my alcohol limited.... let alone after 4 drinks!

Did I consume more than my budgeted amount of gin?

Perhaps the other 3/4 of the bottle was to fuel the plane?

That is so typical of Jetstar. I am glad I have never tried their service, if you can call it that.

I pay a lot less for BA WT+, before it was priced the same as QF premium economy, and when I go and ask for a scotch, bacardi or vodka they hand me 2 miniature 50ml bottles at a time. There has never been a limit on how much alcohol I have been served. Didn't David Boon have 52 VBs on the way to London?

BA WT+ is my prefered mode of transport but that would only have got me to BKK... needed coughet unfortunately and wanted in/out within 2 days for work.


BA hand out little bottles of spirits by the handful!

I guess you are aware that you can fly BKK-HKT roundtrip for under $100 all-in on FD. Only an hour each way and nice friendly service.

Did it myself a few months ago. No probs at all.

Unfortunately BA or even QF do not get in to BKK until late at night which would mean an overnight stay in BKK. The OP was short on time so decided to go to HKT direct.

More general disappointment than disgust... For $2000 I expected more.

Most of the food was really bad and putting water in the gin, then cutting off my supply was ridiculous!

Unfortunately the tight schedule meant that JQ was the only way to get in and out on time. Next time, flying Thai from Melb is a serious option. While I may miss out on valuable QF points it could be a better travel option and is certainly cheaper.

I cant believe that they would actually water down the gin (not saying I don't believe you as if you noticed you must enjoy your gin) - wouldnt it be easier just to put in more tonic (or is that what you meant?).

I am guessing it wasn't Bombay Sapphire either

I took a sip prior to topping up with tonic by mistake and noticed that it was 90% water, not 1/2 a cup of gin... so unless the ice melted quickly, they topped it up with water.

It was Gordons. Seems to be the gin of choice by most airlines at the moment.

On my two experiences flying *Class can't say I saw any holding back of beverage servings.

That said I had had a good fill on the better beverages at the respectibe BKK and SYD F Lounges first

I'm flying *class to coughet in a few weeks, so will keep an eye out for it (although am using points). Fortunately, flying back J on BA from BKK, so only have to do it one way.

Depending on the date and time Air Asia, Nok Air and One-Two-Go are priced at ~A$50 one way with some flights even cheaper.

Bangkok Airways is priced at just over A$100 whilst Thai is priced at over A$150. Not sure about coughet Air as their website is under construction.

Air Asia, Nok Air and coughet Air are all acceptable options. Up to you....

coughet Air ceased RPT operations in 2006 and now operate as a wet lease operation. Nok is part owned by Thai (39%) but has had two recent emergency landings with engine issues, one causing injuries to pax.

Not very good news with LCCs in Thailand. I really enjoyed coughet Air service and price and sad to see them go. I knew that One-Two-Go had issues recently but did not hear about any issues with Nok Air.

I guess that leaves Air Asia....

For about $40 more than economy on Thai you can go in Business. Try to pick the flight with the 747 as you'll often end up sitting in the First section.

Rather than start a new thread, thought I would hijack this one slightly .

I am flying *class MEL-BKK in Sept with my family (wife + 2 girls). Sorry to hear about the gin being watered down and restricted, but happy to hear the wine was flowing freely .

My query is, can any of you that have flown *class tell me what would be the best seats for a group of 4? I am WP and wife is (partner) SG, so should be able to request exit rows etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Also relieved to see there are no negative comments about Bangkok Airways, as we are flying them to/from BKK - Koh Samui.

I have also had free flowing booze on all 4 of my star class flights...

As for Exit rows - there are none in star class really and QF WP benefits don't apply to JQ unfortunately

If have flown this route a couple of time:

For Day flights (e.g. MEL-BKK)

J/K side is better than A/B as the Sun shines/sets on other side of aircraft.

If you are not over 6' I'd go 1J/K,2J/K

For overnight flights (e.g. BKK-MEL):

Best seat (IMO) 2D
#2 is 1E

For the four of you, 1E & 2D/E/F. If not then 1J/K,2J/K so the sun rise does not wake you.
