What is the obsession with HNL............... I've never understood it.

Some nice eateries and the shopping (Waikele) in HNL, and being gateway to the beautiful outer islands, but some use it as a hopping off point to mainland USA or Canada saves going via LA. I've been on or through there many times, love the weather, clean beaches, no pollution, friendly locals.

The Islands re quite beautiful. Honolulu on Oahu for example is a good place to relax for say a week in the warm out of our cold. There's rainforests beaches, waterfalls, urban madness, sun, shopping, walking, nothings too far, good buses, good eating etc etc. The dollars good at the moment, they speak American and it's just not too much of a challenge, if that's the sorta holiday one needs.

Not much 2 for 1 tickets left for HNL. The only dates for the latecomers that are available seem to be 18th/March outbound and inbound a week later.

The Big Island is where it's all at ! Volcanoes, Rainforests, Waterfalls...... a more local feel than the island of Oahu.

In Hilo on the Big Island, it is very non touristy. They have a really good tsunami museum and you can go up to the volcano and fly over the moving molten lava.

Have been going nearly every year since 1997. Have been to the other islands too. It's a great place. Offers me the beach, great shopping and if you can get our of Waikiki and visit other parts of the island. Great walks, fantastic weather Lovely people too. These days a lot of homeless people but no issues

I agree wholeheartedly with your observations Regarding Hilo. It's a real gem , where as a tourist your get immersed in the deal where one can easily mingle with people who really personify Hawaiian culture & only a hop, jump & skip away....visit a whole range of ecological highlights including the fantastic Volcanoes National Park.

its so nice to escape the masses of Oahu, although I do agree the shopping is legendary, even for a bloke like me lol!
