iTWire - VIDEO: Jetstar claims a first with on-board iPads
QANTAS budget airline subsidiary Jetstar has announced the rollout of iPads on board for passengers, claiming to be the first airline in the world to offer tailored technology for Apple's popular tablet. The iPad service will be available on selected flights from tomorrow (9 November) before a wider rollout in December.

According to Jetstar, iPads are being launched on selected Jetstar flights today and will be rolled out across the Australian domestic, trans Tasman and short haul international services from Australia and New Zealand in the coming weeks. Customers flying longer than two hours will be able to hire an iPad from $10-$15 per flight.

Hopefully they will come supplied with headphones that can't be pulled out - I suffered someone's child's iPad games on speaker for my recent ADL-SYD flight in J - I could hear it over my in ear headphones...

I would expect output to such inbuilt speakers to be disabled.

I didn't think iPad speakers could be that loud... Getting two kidto watch the one iPad is something I've got to work out how to do in a couple of weeks time, so maybe inbuilt speaker on very low may not be a good idea...

Actually Cult of Mac picked up on this. Interestingly I think they might have read some more from this site as they said something like "this will give them something to distract from priority boarding"...

WTF? Since when are iPads low cost? Android tabs are cheaper and kindle fire is almost free - so how is the iPad a low cost choice?

Sure it's cheaper than the rockwell option - but it might actually work.

Wait - I get it - you think this is the RIGHT choice as this is a low cost option for a low cost airline. Should low cost airlines choose high cost options? Bit confused here...

"World first"? Just read a TR on FT with IPads in J on BA months ago

May be it's just my evil head, but when I first read the low cost post, I thought it was referring to the duct tapes rather than the ipads...

The solution is correct for a LCC yes

When.... Virgin go down this path...................
