I hope they are phasing out JQ SYD-HNL as well, so that QF can survive on that route (especially since they will start using an A330 in the future). Otherwise I reckon this is aimed at over supplying capacity to HNL so they can cease the QF SYD-HNL service.
I could be wrong and there could be genuine demand to fill the JQ services and QF services.. just once bitten twice shy with JQ/QF 'route expansions'. :mrgreen:

Does this mean they're taking an A330 service away somewhere else, or simply holding onto an (more than 1?) A330 longer than planned, leaving Qantas waiting longer too? Perhaps Qantas wants to slow down the hand backs.

HA have just upped their frequency on the route.

Queenslanders wanting to experience the sun and surf in Hawaii will be able to take off with Jetstar’s new nonstop service between Brisbane and Honolulu starting on 15 December 2014*.
The route will be operated by an Airbus A330 aircraft featuring Jetstar’s business and economy class cabins with one way sale fares starting at $299 in economy and $799 in business class^.
Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said the route would operate up to three times a week during the peak season with two weekly services in the off peak.
“With the addition of this new connection from Brisbane, Jetstar offers more seats from Brisbane and Queensland than any other low fares carrier,” Mr Hall said.
“Jetstar has been offering long haul low fares between Sydney and Hawaii since 2006 and last year we introduced nonstop services to Honolulu from Melbourne.
“Hawaii is one of the most popular destinations on our network and we’re delighted to be giving more Aussies the chance to experience this part of the world.
“This new service is part of Jetstar’s mission to deliver more choice for customers and allow them to travel to more places than ever before.”
Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey welcomed the announcement of Jetstar’s new route to Queensland saying these additional direct flights had the potential to entice thousands of extra visitors to Queensland every year.
“The Newman Government is working hard to maximise visitor numbers to the State to reach our goal of doubling annual overnight visitor expenditure from $15 billion to $30 billion by 2020,” Ms Stuckey said.
“This new aviation route from Honolulu into Brisbane will offer travellers more holiday choices and boost tourism to our great state.”
The new Honolulu route will be the second wide body service from Brisbane following the start of direct services to Bali later this month to be operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner*.
Flights will depart from Brisbane on Tuesdays and Fridays with services operating from Honolulu on Mondays and Thursdays.
The third service for peak season will operate on a Sunday. The route will eventually be operated by the game changing Boeing 787 Dreamliner as Jetstar continues to take delivery of more aircraft.

To celebrate the launch of Brisbane – Honolulu route, Jetstar fares will be on sale from 5pm (AEDT) today Wednesday 2 April until 12:59AM (AEDT) on Thursday 3 April, unless sold out prior, for travel between 3 February 2015 to 27 February 2015. Its possibly because HA have been hauling thousands pax out of BNE to HNL is the reason for this.

If you live in regional QLD you don't want to fly eg MKY/BNE/SYD/HNL just to fly QF so many opt for HA instead as bags can be thru checked to HNL on HA if all flights in the same pnr.

Ditto for QF to JQ but flights must be in the same pnr which will be difficult as you'd more than likely need to book on the QF site but you'd need to book the introductory special fares direct on JQ site ie two separate pnrs so you'd need to allow plenty of time to collect bags at BNE dom then get yourself to BNE intl to check in.

Wonder if Oceania got the ground handling gig as I imagine TOLL couldn't if they already do HA.

So going by the above we have exactly 7 hours and one minute to buy these airfares or do they actually mean for sale until until 2359 Thu 03 Apr? Either way it will confuse everyone nicely.

At present HA have the best hard product to HNL in comparison to JQ & QF , although not for long with QF going to a refurbished A330 & eventually JQ will go to a 787.... So HA are going to be given a real run for their money when their competition improves their product offering.

HA have an outstanding included Baggage allowance , perfect for the bargain hunters of shopping malls as well as 'Surfies' heading to Maui & the North Shore, although HA are quite pricey & usually come out far more expensive than JQ, despite all the Add on's.

Although HA uses a newer product compared to QF, QF J has at least 6 more inches of pitch compared to HA "First"

It's funny as I wouldn't consider any of the direct products particularly set the world alight!

I've flown HA twice HNL/BNE on a VA award but I wouldn't really call HA a full service airline as you have to self checkin ex HNL which is a much more complex & time consuming process than the systens in Australia which are only for domestic travel. I didn't have an issue but it's a struggle for families with multiple kids & suitcases.

Also you have to pay extra for the portable DVD's - that's when the contractor remembers to load the mobile eftpos machines to charge the pax which they forgot to do on our flight.

You also need to pay extra for snacks as there's a 6 hour gap between lunch & the sandwich you get prior to landing. Once again the (different) contractor forgot to load the mobile eftpos machines so nobody could buy snacks.

I think you'd still come out in front dollars wise by flying JQ even after adding extras like baggage & meals.

I can't stand supporting JQ and I can't stand the old 767 on QF

The QF A330 and then the A330 refurbished can't come soon enough.

As soon as the A330 is on the route I will be booking a flight to HNL as it's been a few years since I have been there and that is far too long

Let's hope the AUD holds out for a year or so

I think you'd still come out in front dollars wise by flying JQ even after adding extras like baggage & meals.

Absolutely agree. I've done the maths & i've never found HA cheaper than JQ & line ball with QF.

In all fairness to JQ, i've flown both in Economy & business to HNL , the service is obviously completely different in each cabin, but would be happy to fly them again any day.

Im lead to believe that HA get many of their seats filled as a result of their code share with VA...... If one is wanting to fly on HA metal, than more often than not its cheaper to book on VA & get a VA flight number than it its with HA directly.
