So - I don't get the 6 cent fares unless I sign up (or purchase access - yearly fee) to the Jetstar Credit Card.

I'll open up a can of worms here - and any legal eagles please tell me otherwise - I'd like to know about the following ....

Third line forcing

Exclusive dealing and third line forcing (s47)

Third line forcing is a specific form of exclusive dealing prohibited outright by the Trade Practices Act. It is not subject to the substantial lessening of competition test. It involves the supply of goods or services on condition that the purchaser buys goods or services from a particular third party, or a refusal to supply because the purchaser will not agree to that condition.

( I read this as Mastercard being the 3rd party - I must buy access to the card - which is the $49 annual fee to get a 6 cent fare)

Yes, I have too much time on my hands :)

See here: Jetstar Airways Pty Limited - Notification - N94271. In essence they sought and were granted immunity by the ACCC.

You have a point there - new customers wanting to book the 6 cent fare must in effect pay $49.06 to get that fare - based around component pricing in the travel industry which has been "outlawed" according to the Trade Practices Act - the full price of a travel item including all components must be advertised up front - in full.

Existing customer are ok - new customers - for which they are touting for must pay $49.06 cents minimum.

(Yeah its a 6 cent fare - but the principle...)

You dont need to sign up for a CC to access this promo. As long as someone posts the link who does have a CC, we can all access it. This is what happened last time.

I would have thought you'd have to purchase with a Jetstar MC?

Basically it will be a normal JQ jetmail sale with the email getting sent out to the JQ mastercard people, but anyone can book it, it will just be $3.56 for a flight as they will have to pay a CC fee..
The promo is advertising a 6c fare with the JQ card because if you use that card it will waive the CC fee...

"Customers will continue to be able to book and pay for airfares and other travel
services through jetstar.com and the Jetstar call centre without acquiring particular
card services of Macquarie. Similarly, customers of Macquarie remain free to pay
for airfares and other travel services from any vendor."

Party Cancelled & Indian givers.

Someone else may know if those who got cheaper birthday fares are the first to be bounced if overbooked - its kinda logical.

"Jetstar is sorry to inform you that since you made your booking, your flight schedule has been changed. We understand it can be frustrating when plans change, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. While we try to avoid any changes to our timetable, in this instance it was unavoidable. The change to the schedule has been made so we can maximise our aircraft utilisation and continue to offer you everyday low fares."

Normally I would be pissed. Actually this is pretty good of JQ, to tell me 60+ days out
they are chopping a Sunday flight and moving it to a Monday - say compared to Tiger who make management decisions to chop emptyish flights by the hour.

No, I won't be clicking accept - I'll be ringing to see if my original flight was overbooked - as it is during busy school holidays and some V8 event, and I have on connections.
