JFK, early check in

I'm looking at having to make my way from EWR to JFK. Plenty of time and options so no problem there. My query is can I check in for my flight 5-6 hours before departure? I'm on the 10pm flight, JFK-LHR, and wouldn't mind just crashing in the lounge for that time as the week beforehand will be a tad crazy and I know I won't really feel like killing time in NYC. I figure their lounge will be open given the flights they operate from JFK, however does anyone have experience of being able to check luggage in so far in advance?

Depends if there are other flights around that time and if the lounge is open. It was a few years ago but I went there early because I had to get out of the hotel and just wanted to chill but because they didn't have a flight leaving any earlier than mine the lounge wasn't open

Looking at their schedule they have evening flights departing from 6pm(ish). I assume the lounge opens 2-3 hours before that flight. The last morning flight I saw departed at 10:15am so I assume the lounge would shut for a few hours during the middle of the day.
