The flygirl has a birthday in August, and as she has never been to Japan, I'm trying to figure out the flights to get from ADL to KIX.
The plan is to visit Osaka and Kyoto, but we need to slip down to Wakayama for 2 days (to keep the tax man happy!!!!!)
I want to use QF as we have bags of points to use up, and coupons to use.
I have used the QF website and can get QF flights to SYD or BNE, but then I hit JQ flights to KIX.
The JAL flights for the days I'm looking at are booked out (yes, it will just be economy!) and JQ are the only option.
If we go with the JQ option, am I correct in thinking our bags will need to be collected and taken to the next flight, or is international different with JQ where the bags are checked through and we don't need to do anything until we get to the end (other than customs clearance)?
We have never flown JQ internationally so it might be a new experience for us to have!
Would appreciate any feedback that can be offered please.

Have you looked at options on China Airlines (CI) going via Taipei? I'm flying them from CTS (Hokkaido) as far as HKG using QFF points in June. Use the multi city thingy.

I flew JQ internationally DPS-BNE in business and it was good - but of course if they cancel, I'd be up the creek along with everyone else.

What is your QFF status, the others might know, if you have told them, as you have been on here longer than me.
Having a high QFF bal does not help, without having the QFF status, which is more important.
If flying QF is important to you, and in a premium cabin, and you have SG or higher QFF status, how about just flying into NRT/HND?
ADL - SYD midday, arr SYD maybe 14.30, and then take the QF flight from SYD - HND that dep about 20.30 or so, getting to HND 5.30 next day, and then take the Shinkansen to Osaka, I am sure she would thank you for giving her her first ride on one of those trains.
Try a green tea and 2 or 3 onigiris, and as the trip is only about 2 hrs, its not that long.
I have flown on a JQi 787 as a dom pax on their int flight, as the others say on other threads, lower expectations, and you will be ok.
JQi, when I flew SYD - MEL, didnt give out PRD (pre dep drinks), as what QF would give out on any of their QFd/QFi flights.
If the plane is a 787, its not bad, its only if its a 321neo, that it can be quite tight.
I too live in ADL, and have to transit PER/SYD/MEL/BNE to get anywhere, int speaking if I want to fly QFi.
---
If you want to fly into Toyko in the evening, then you might have to transit MEL overnight, at the Parkroyal Melbourne Airport, and then get the QFi am dep from MEL - NRT, arr NRT about 19.30 or so, it leaves MEL at 9.30.

Thank you both for your ideas - I was working on some options last night when I was told "it would be lovely to go back to Singapore for my birthday"!!!!
Seems it has made the whole birthday thing a whole lot simpler.
We both love Singapore and the food, and it's where we had our honeymoon, so it looks like it will be back to Singapore!

Just a note it's not too hard to go from SIN to Japan so you could conceivably do both.

7 airlines operating flights to 6 airports in Japan from Singapore.
NQ, NH, JL, 3K and ZG going to HND and/or NRT while TR also go to KIX and CTS with SQ going to the prior airports as well as NGO and cough.
