JQ 7 MEL-SIN reliability

2-4 cancellations a month on a once a day flight, with almost no other Jetstar alternatives.
If that stat is right definitely on my no go list

And sometimes, you don't find out about the cancellation until it's almost too late to arrange for alternatives. e.g. on 12 May, JQ7 was cancelled. JQ8 didn't show up as cancelled on JQ's status page, QF's status page (code-share QF292), or SIN airport's flight status until 2/3 hours before departure. By which time, (assuming pax were contacted at that time), there's virtually no chance for anyone to get to the airport in time for alternative flights (e.g. QF10 departing 75mins earlier than JQ8). Seriously, is it that hard to work out the inbound aircraft isn't flying in? However, there is a later JQ alternative via DRW on an A321 on some days, but that flight seems to get pretty good loads on most days.

Why is the reliability of JQ 7 from MEL to SIN so poor? According to expertflyer, that flight only has something like a 25% on time performance!

Will checked baggage from SYD (JQ501) need to be collected/re-checked at MEL if connecting with JQ7 a couple of hours later. Same question for the reverse movement JQ8 - JQ504 (all 4 flights in 1 booking).

I would be surprised if the JQ MEL-BKK flight reliability was any better.

As to the reasons why the on-time performance is so poor, I suspect it has to do with the complete absence of available replacement aircraft; in the event of any minor maintenance issue.

I use both these flights quite a bit, since I am MEL based and I like the Starclass MAX benefits. However, I have a little policy......I try only to take these flights inbound. At the very end of my trips, delays are much less important. (also, on average, the inbound flights are about 20% cheaper than their outbound counterparts)

Thanks serfty - will report back what happens when I return.
As quoted by serfty there is no connectivity with JQ (domestic) & JQ (int) - had to check in/collect luggage twice e/way - relatively painless process but took 1.5 hrs today to collect/recheck-in at Mel - flight was 1 hr early due to wind assistance - 3 other int flights arrived around the same time.

Very unreliable..

JQ 7 - Mel to Sin , 12th July '11, Delayed by TWO hours. We were only told when it was 30mins to actual departure.
No, no food or drinks . NOTHING.

JQ 8 - Sin to Mel , reached Changi Airport , found out that flight was CANCELLED! nobody attempted to contact us on our mobile phones. Fortunately, we were transferred to a Qantas Jumbo.

This is not the first time i have been delayed on this flight. Previous flight was from Singapore - Melbourne via Darwin (i think). This flight got delayed by 7 HOURS! No overnight accomodtion, we were directed to a food court at changi airport where we were given vouchers to claim our meals. And we had no choice to but to sleep on chairs, sofas.

I had a check on flight stats today, JQ7 got delayed by 3 hours!!

And my wife pleaded me not to book her on Jetstar today, thank goodness she managed to convince me and i placed her on an Emirates flight.

Seriously, Jetstar should offer such routes if they dont have enough planes or staff to cater to the needs of others.

Quit the 'maintainece issue' BS .

I might be getting confused but wasn't JQ35 scheduled for 18:30 on the 13th August delayed until about 5:00 AM on the 14th August?

31st October JQ7 left Melbourne 3 hours late. Vague reasoning aircraft not suitable to fly and then catering took too long, so change of gate and aircraft. Only one meal served in the 7 hours and as was in middle of Qantas shut down believe we code shared with a Q flight. Hope to get home on time Sat night the 5th Nov.

That made no sense at all. SIN caterers have nothing to do with the Qantas strike, and JQ/3K does not have a spare aircraft at that hour, as far as I know (the 3K SIN-AKL would've/should've departed at 19:00). My guess is that something else is happening there, and they didn't want anyone to know about it.

I'm not sure how SIN caterers impact of the flight leaving MEL.

I considered that too and was going to reply - until I realised that Andy may have been referring to the OP's concerns for the return JQ8 flight.

If, indeed, they were referring to JQ7 then Andy "was on the wrong tram".

Could be. Guess I'm just slow. :(
