JQ and Bali

I am in the same boat Pushka. Even though Virgin is happy to let me cancel my flights, thats my choice. Insurance obviosuly wont cover my other losses which is my prepaid onwards domestic flights. Got them all on a Garuda sale, not refundable.

I have already booked backup flights on SG with reward points, they are fully flexible so i can change at any time, so for now i am going to sit it out until the Kaboom. What i want is for Virgin to cancel the flights so i can pull the trigger on insurance so i am not out of pocket at all.

Mr Limewood needs the kaboom also and sooner the better IMO. But it all depends on the insurance policy terms. Mine says my flights need to be delayed 24 hours first

It sucks waiting though. If anyone wants certainty they need to suck it in now and take the losses. Its either that or take a chance spending half the holiday not going anywhere

Exactly the position. If we could freely cancel now we could make alternate arrangements. Or we could still be waiting in early Nov, travel, then it all goes Cactus. The alt plan you have has one issue and that’s if they close the airport. And even if it goes to cactus right now I’m betting the Insurance companies will only have cancellation choice for maybe a week then I’d expect they’d extend but only week by week.

Read a post on FB where person just received text from Virgin saying flight DPS to Pt Headland on Sat had been cancelled due to ash. Reckon Virgin capitalised on convenient excuse.

The wind in Bali is currently NNE and will stay that way pretty much until change of season in December. That being the case the ash will fall away from the airport and the usual tourist haunts until then if a normal season.

Mrs Lime getting frantic about next Sundays flight to Bali, she called JQ (as I was out) they said select another departure date to Bali within next 84 days or why not go to another destination, oh great she said - how about HNL sure, how about SIN sure, difference in price about $1000 each, she declined, so asked - can I have a credit voucher and use it later NO... arr the joys of travel...

Did the online chat to change our flight from next Tuesday to Sunday.
Quick and easy, out of Bali early on the Monday morning if Agung behaves.

I am not going to bali, only transit, so even better if the airport closes, makes it easier for me to trigger insurance claims. :)

Back from Bali yesterday 7th Oct., had a great time, no mention of volcano at anywhere, restaurants full, flights CNS/DPS/CNS full both ways.

Awful return light time (as we knew), left late as usual. Departure gate at DPS in total disarray, was a second bag check check by just 2 "officials", some pax had a part body pat down others none, had to walk across tarmac to the plane, so all in all not impressed at 1.30am.

Both ways on board service very good, we booked exit seats, both hard as a rock and just stuffed on these old A320 tubs. And why on this JQ flight they would serve meals to only about 50 pax at 2am and keep everyone awake while they did so, its ridiculous on a 4.5 hour flight.

Night time flights from Bali suck in every possible way.

Sure do, I don't know why they depart here at a reasonable time yet depart from overseas at such crazy times and like most long haul into OZ they arrive early am.

Because of airport curfews. Airlines dont make money with planes sleeping at airports overnight they prefer to have them in the air.

Id rather a night flight out and a day back. But after this last Bali JQ flight it wont be with them.
