As per the link posted on FT, JQ have confirmed they are joining Oneworld which was flagged by their participation in the OneWorld fares, it will be interesting to see how things change as far as fares earning points etc goes, while there are some fares on many members not earning points, and getting meals etc I suspect some of the fares may start to qualify to help make the transition to an alliance member easier for customers.

Jetstar joins Oneworld alliance | Stuff.co.nz

Asia Pacific budget carrier Jetstar is aiming to grow its Asian business by at least 30 per cent this year and is looking to open routes to Europe and North America when it takes delivery of the long-delayed Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2012.

The move would put the Melbourne-based Qantas affiliate, which has an Asian hub in Singapore, in competition with Malaysia's Air Asia X and potentially with some established long-haul full service carriers such as Singapore Airlines.

Jetstar group CEO Bruce Buchanan said that the company will also join Oneworld alliance, which will put it in the same team as Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Japan Airlines.
thanks to Blackcloud on FT for posting.

Excellent - I can now access the F Lounge in Narita when flying JQ.

So acceptance to OW is a formality?
Personally probably makes absolutely no difference to me-would never travel them longhaul and I am not going to waste a segment of a DONE on MCY-SYD.
Now if their Aadvantage earning rates are OK.But I guess it will probably only be Jetflex fares that earn.

I can see this being hugely problematic.

Would JQ became the first LCC member of oneworld or of any alliance?

Here’s to hoping that their intention to join brings about more fares that earn on QFF, even if they earn very little. And if they join, I guess that means they should have to look after elites, which could be interesting :)

Particularly when a flight that's JQ metal masquerades as a QF flight so pax expect QF service, earning points etc.

European pax never have the "codeshare flight operated by Jetstar" anywhere on their travel agent issued itineraries which adds to the problem.

I still wonder whether this article is confusing a cooperation with Oneworld with regards to fares, as joining oneworld. I don't see the quote where Jetstar states they are joining oneworld. They say the CEO said it but they don't quote what he said exactly. Other articles only talk about the cooperation with airfares.

Here is a link to the Jetstar press release (nothing about joining oneworld alliance here) http://www.jetstar.com/~/media/files/pdf/news/2011/20110127b.pdf

For several reasons, I think that this may be incorrect:

1) If Jetstar were joining oneWorld, then that would be s story in itself, rather than as an aside in another article
2) The press release makes no mention of this agreement being anything but a marketing tie-up to allow fares sold as a QF codeshare to be added to some existing oneWorld packages. It does say that Jetstar is not part of the alliance.
3) Reading several other reports, no one else mentions is actually becoming a oneWorld member.

Thats possible, the OW press release went out of its way to point out JQ are not a member of that alliance!

Id say its extremely likely and perhaps the thread should have a title change as I don't believe JQ have confirmed they are joining oneworld at all.

I'll join Dazz81's thinking. When a joins oneworld, isn't there quite a lead time, like several months, even a year (eg. S7, Air Berlin)? Poor journalism. There's also nothing on the oneworld site.

That said, I still think JQ fares (on QF codeshares) being offered through oneworld is just asking for trouble, particularly from those not familiar with JQ.

Yes and no.

On the plus side, the ongoing Jetstarisation of Qantas has left a great number of holes in oneWorld reach. If 3K is involved also, it will open up a number of routes as well.

As for no, expectation management is going to be needed :)

If the reports are correct, that's great.

Being based here in Asia, I try to fly OW to keep my status up, but being slapped in the face with the "No Lounge Access" made me change to CX, (BKK-SIN) which I fly about every 6 weeks or so.

Admittedly, I'll not be using them to fly with earned FFP - the add ons I would have to pay for, would make that crazy!! - but the ability to fly to SGN on something other than Vietnam Airlines and earn points internally also, makes this an interesting proposition.

Will keep my eyes peeled for further developments.

As a QF gold, you should now have access to the lounge when flying on a 3K flight. The rules changed recently.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the update! I hear *nothing* from QF here in BKK - the changes emails that everyone has been talking about has yet to arrive in my inbox, so thanks to AFF, I can keep up to date. (Otherwise I'm flying blind!!!)

Haven't flown with 3K recently, so it will be interesting to see what happens next time I do - have to fly at least 4 sectors with J* here to retain status, and they are my only option here in Asia.

Anybody have a copy of the email that QF sent advising of changes to the QFF program they could forward? Would really like to know what *is* going on with the Red Tail. . . . . . .

Only a good thing if SCs are awarded on JetSaver fares :p

Perhaps 2 SCs for international flights and 1 SC for domestic flights. :p Seriously SCs for mickey mouse airfares such as 5c, $9, $19, $29, $39 airfares?

I don't think this will happen in a hurry as there will be more overcrowding of lounges. If wanting SC earn on JQ airfares then purchase JetFlex or Starclass.
