JQ confirms it's joining Oneworld (according to press and not direct quotes)

Perhaps 2 SCs for international flights and 1 SC for domestic flights. :p Seriously SCs for mickey mouse airfares such as 5c, $9, $19, $29, $39 airfares?

I don't think this will happen in a hurry as there will be more overcrowding of lounges. If wanting SC earn on JQ airfares then purchase JetFlex or Starclass.

But I think there is scope when some Jetsaver fares are on comparison to eDeals too..

Understand this, but perhaps they would need a way of distinguishing the real cheap no FF points on this type fare, from those that can give points. At the moment, it is JetFlex gets full Y, or nothing.

Which ones though?

I think QFF will keep the program simple and not try to introduce the flexibility to allow earning on all JQ classes.

Personally (and I am not saying this in a bad way) I feel JQ needs their own FF program. Something along the lines buy 5 get one free. It does not need to be overly complex due to their customer base.

Why create your own, when there is a pre-baked one you can hook into?

You could have any fares that aren't sale ones. At a simplistic view it would be an earn or non earn bucket class?

I think QF need to address it as there are places where they don't fly and JQ do (OOL for example) where at least if i flew DJ I'd get something for it.

Also the price difference between Jet flex and Jet saver is too much to warrant the earning..

...and I have chosen DJ for that very reason.

Because I don't think QFF will cheapen their FF program (yes I know that sounds bad) and there is a growing list of people wanting SCs for JQ flights.

It seems that points / status benefits will only be available on Qantas-Jetstar codeshare flights. In this case, my future bookings are going to be very messy, hunting for codeshare etc....

I haven't read the release but isn't applying points and, in particular, status benefits on QF-JQ codeshares contrary to what's happening now? I thought the most you got from a QF-JQ codeshare was, at best, a meal. More than that, I thought it was pretty clear that status benefits (eg. priority baggage, increased baggage allowance, priority check-in etc.) did not apply.

It means if you are on a Circle,LONE etc your JQ sector will have a QF number not JQ.
If you are just booking JQ it will still be QFF for jetflex and *class only.
And as JQs press release this OW news makes no mention of JQ joining OW.
It ain't happening folks.

*If* it did happen, it might address those sole JQ lounge issues, ie, OOL where CL+WP only have free access.

Depends on what/how you classify a LCC.
I did LHR-TXL on BA a number of years ago and only got tea/coffee and nuts. Baggage and points aside, it's not that much of a higher standard for a "premium airline" than a BNE-SYD JQ flight.

I was surprised to read yesterday's AFR also reporting that JQ are joining OW.

Well have a look at other Alliance airlines: AA/US/UA domestic economy - food for purchase only. BMI domestic - food for purchase only. They are virtually LCC's too in their domestic markets.

Do WP have access to the OOL lounge?

Dazz81, My answer in post #32 was to this question by Danger. I should have put Danger's text in my reply. My bad.

Would JQ became the first LCC member of oneworld or of any alliance?

I agree totally. There are some places that QF don't fly, and to "keep it in the family" so to speak, I have flown 3K BKK-SIN and SIN-SGN on several occasions.

Unfortunately, unless I cop the "Full Fare", no points are forthcoming - I can get points on a Red-E deal and specials with QF, what makes J* soooo different?

If QF don't fly the route, why not have J* allowing for points earn and SC on the cheaper fare. (Not the *cheapest*, the cheaper.)

They can do exactly what CX offers - their "super-cheap" flights don't earn FF points or status credits, but their next flight up usually does. The difference in fares between the two, is more often in favour of me flying CX on the BKK-SIN run, so I choose them over J* these days.

Some good points raised about LCCs and the US situation. I'd now agree that, certainly in AA's case (the only US carrier I have experience with), it's very similar to JQ at the back of the plane: food for purchase, amenities for purchase, baggage for purchase. So, yeah, very interesting.

Here are a couple of relevant paragraphs from the press release but I can't cut & paste so just re-typed it.

"Jetstar already participates in Global Explorer, the round-the-world fare offered by all oneworld partners with a number of other airlines that are not part of the alliance, and also in the alliance's Visit Australia and New Zealand Pass - but today's development is the first time that any carrier which is not part of oneworld is being added to the alliances's own oneworld-branded mainstream fare packages".

Notes 2
"Members of Oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes can earn mileage on eligible* Qantas-coded Jetstar flights using these fares once their frequent flyer programme host airline has implemented interline links with Jetstar. Currently, this applies to American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas and Royal Jordanian."

*Wonder what the fine print is re 'eligible Qantas-coded Jetstar flights'?
