I have just returned from Europe flying SQ. I weighed my bags before leaving and the local airport weighed 2kg lighter at 33.6 kg.
At Stocholm they weighed 34.9 kg
Leaving from Zurich the two bags weighed 34.9 kg
Then a day later with the same contents the bags weighed 37.8 kg in Singapore.
I even commented to the checkin lady that the scales in Switzerland weighed the bags considerably lighter.

flighty,

I have posted elsewhere that we had a situation about 7 weeks ago where our bags were under 20kg (just) on the scales in AKL and then in SYD but were over when we checked them into V-line for the final leg home. We then had to take coats out of the bags.

I was speaking to some people who'd been over to Groote Eylandt and on the return GTE/DRW the AirNorth scales weighed their suitcase at 18 kilos and they were charged excess of 3 kilos.

On checking in for their flight BNE/DRW with QF the scales said 15 kilos and ditto for the DRW/BNE flight when nothing further was removed from the bag ie they collected it from the TL flight then checked in immediately on QF.

I'd say the likelihood the scales will be incorrect increases the more remote your destination.

Hi, I have checked the Jetstar website and searched through the wording on the baggage page and I cant see where they say they will honour the Qantas baggage allowance - maybe its already been removed :( I was going to print it and keep in my hand luggage for future reference at the airport. If the wording is still out there somewhere a link would be appreciated. Thanks

Travelled JQ from HBA - SYD on Wed night and pleasantly surprised by the experience at the airport and in the air

Checked luggage weighed in at 23 kegs and while their first response was to charge excess when they realized I was traveling on a QF codeshare was told the QF allowance applied.

Staff attitude on ground and in air was really friendly and helpful and contrasted greatly with experience with their Call Centre staff a couple of days earlier when I was trying to change to an earlier flight when staff were short tempered and pretty unhelpful. Not an airline to fly on business IMHO when flight changes sometimes needed, but now we are getting off-topic!
