When i was in a QF 737 last time in Y near the overwing exits, the CC would come through and seem to flick a hidden switch at the bottom of one of the seats. What was i seeing?
The seat recline lock.

Seats that back into the overwing exit row space will be locked for takeoff and landing to prevent recline (and potential blocking of the exit).

I can remember back in the day when I flew W-E-W a lot for work (on AN) and if I couldn't get an upgrade choosing exit row seats. I often had to ask the first FA who walked past after the takeoff seatbelt sign was turned off to unlock it. It surprised me how often they forgot to do it as a matter of course.
