Hey,

Just had an odd experience with JQ in AKL.
I had a QF cash booking which incorporated a Jetstar flight from AKL to RAR (first leg was a QF flight with no issues two days earlier)
At the check in, I was advised that there is an outstanding balance of 0.61 NZD, which I have to pay to be able to get checked in.

I was a bit puzzled, but didn’t want to make a scene, especially not over such minor dollar amount.

Today I did check our return flight (seperate booking, JQ flight booked with QF points) and I saw in the MMB overview that there is an open balance of 1.06 AUD, but no payment option.
I did contact Jetstar via the chat and the agent did waive this balance, but I still have no clue why this happened.

To be clear, I don’t want to whinge about the 61 cents, but I want to understand how this can happen.
It was not the first time I had JQ bookings on a QF ticket and never ever I had to pay at check in.

Did you ask the agent on the chat what the charge was for exactly?

If it was ticketed by Qantas you should definitely not have to pay any extra. Even if you paid for any ancillaries such as seat selection or meals, online payment would have settled any balance for this.

I suspect it might have to do with some error in currency conversion of taxes / fees, perhaps if the booking was not immediately ticketed and the exchange rate changed. This shouldn't really happen when you book directly with QF/JQ though.

Did you ever make any changes to the booking?

The agent in the chat wasn’t very communicative about this charges, just that he waived it.
However, turn of events. :d
I tried to check in online, errored out after providing all my details.
When i try again, I get the message that there are 2.10 AUD outstanding…
So let’s hop onto the chat again 😅

Yes i did rebook the flight from RAR to Syd, but this was dealt via the QF hotline and I paid the 5k points rebooking fee.
Never touched the first flight from Akl to RAR after ticketing.

Even if there is something pending in the background regarding FX courses, in the end this shouldn’t be paid by the client at check in 😃

Praise to the QF and JQ IT Systems 😄

This was the reply from another JQ agent:

This was due to ticket repriced which was a error on the booking. Nothing to worry I already fixed it

Not much of information but it confirms the point Zero made

I have had this come up on a few JQ bookings that were classic reward bookings - rang Qantas from memory (as the ticketing airline) and they referred to the 'Jetstar issues desk' and the minor extra charge was waived - think it is something to do with taxes/FX changes...
