JQ travel to earn FF points - for a Fee [even in 'Business']

Hope the starclass sales fares are really good. Or someday we see a JQ/3K A330 in PER. Because that's the only way I would think about a JQ flight. Especially when paying extra for the points and SCs in a program that makes flight awards very expensive.

The basic JQ business fare needs to credit points and (economy) SCs

But then I'm biased.

From where I am (in SIN), I can see that the old normal *C prices are the same as the base business prices. As an example which I was looking at, SIN-MEL return in about 6 months time is $1635 SGD in *C a week ago. Today, the business base fare is also $1635 SGD. To max it up would add $400 SGD to the costs, i.e. $2035 SGD.

In a nutshell, I need to pay an extra $400 SGD to get exactly the same thing as before. Note that the prices used are not promotional prices.

Has Simon Westaway posted in this thread yet to try to offer explanations, or is he just ignoring everyone?

According to today's crikey.com.au tips and rumours section, Simon Westaway is leaving for Tourism Australia so perhaps he is pre-occupied.

So it seems most of the time the add on for Business MAX is $200 on international legs for starclass. While i dont agree with this additional charge, we live in a capitalist society where suppler and demand factors will ultimately change pricing by companies and if JQ want to increase this way then thats there choice (though once again i dont like it! ha)

I do have one thing i dont like though. Im based in Melb, i use *Class to travel to Japan, Singapore and Hawaii regularly. Singapore is fine, being a direct from melbourne with the $200 each way.

HOWEVER , my flights to Japan are via GOld Coast and Hawaii via Sydney. Now if i booked Sydney - Hawaii or Gold Coast to Japan the surcharge is $200 each way. However if i book the entire leg from melbourne the surcharge ranges from $455 to $515 each way due to it putting me in the Full Economy rate add on for the domestic legs ! This is so un necessary, it should default to the Starter plus for the domestic legs and give you the OPTION to go up to the next level?!?!

I now have to book flights on separate itineraries, and if using JQ for the domestic legs i add on the Starter Plus pack for the change abilities for a much lower overall fee!

Anyone else been annoyed by that bit? Or think itll change?

Sorry if this has been answered here but there are 33 pages!

In March I booked and paid for a star class sale fare MEL-Ho Chi Min in August.

It now shows as a Business fare online, which does not attract QFF status credits. I caled JQ and was told I would recieve the SC's but who to believe?

I live in Brisbane and there are cheaper and more direct routes than a trip via Melb, but I did if for the extra SC's. If they are no longer going to award them....I want out!

Can anyone shed light on this please?:?:

Simply put, if you bought your *C ticket before 17 May, all terms and conditions stay the same. You will retain lounge access, and will earn FF points and SCs as per before. This is despite what your new ticket may say.

I think I have also mentioned this previously as well, that I flew on a *C promo fare on 17 May. The points have been posted with the new bonuses, and there were no issues with lounge access.

This was my burning question too, but unfortunately when I talked to JQ today, the answer was not only 'no' but that to do so would constitute a fare change and attract a $50 penalty on top of the $25 fare difference.

Yeah - this burning question of a flyer adding a "bundle" either online or at the airport to earn QFF points on a JQ flight - will be the real "make or break" moment for these changes, imagine all the corporate victims of "Best Fare of the Day" policies by their employers being unable to add a bundle out of their own pocket by inflexible conditions.

Seems crazy that JQ's conditions will actually prevent their own customers from giving them money to buy QFF pts or SC's!

There seems to be a glitch with the JQ booking system at the moment.

I've looked at two separate return airfares, one PER-xSIN-SGN and the other PER-SIN. For both bookings I could choose to add either of the bundles (plus or max) but for the return (ie. ex-Asia), even when I selected either bundle, it did not change the total cost. In fact, while I could choose one of the two bundles, neither bundle had an associated cost.

What's more, my return flight SGN-xSIN-PER apparently had a duration of "0hrs35mins".

Adding to the above, there is now a sale on ex-SIN. Prices below are before tax/fees/fines, in SGD, and apply for travel periods in late July to late September.
SIN-MEL JQ8 in economy class:
Starter: $141.90
Plus: +$325!!
Max: +$825!!!

MEL-SIN JQ7 in economy class (also in SGD):
Starter: $141.90
Plus: +$365!!
Max: +$825!!!

(note the plus sign, being the additional amount on top of the starter price).

So, it looks like only the starter fares would go on special. Everything else that would accrue points, SC's, etc would remain at the same non-sale prices.

Business is also supposingly on special, although I can't find any of these fares. The ad states $499 for Business, and $899 for Business Max.

Given on this type of flights, the starter plus fare would generally be more expensive than an O class QF fare, you would only get this if you need to keep the flexibility or if there are no sales on with QF.

Also on for Friday Frenzy...

MEL-SIN $199, Plus +$255, Max +$685
MEL-BKK $199, Plus +$285, Max +$715

Is there an error on the site or have JQ changed policy?

I have looked at some MEl-SIN returns and MEL-Osaka via gold coast return Business and the Business MAX on each option is always no extra?!?!?!?!

But when you go to the page where you put the pax names in, if often adds the additional price there!

Seems there is a bug in the system.

And if it doesn't add in the extra, it sells you the normal Business ticket without the Max even though you've checked the box.

So would there be any grounds if i purchased a ticket with the MAX box ticked and didnt get charged extra to claim the points and SC? Or is it to risky? Is the only way to book this over the phone? They surely would waive the service fee due to a internet fault wouldnt they?
