Has anyone had a holiday in July? Is the weather as atrocious as everyone in reviews suggest? We live in the NT so we are used to heat. Thinking about a quick trip into Tokyo and side trips from there for 2 weeks. I'd value your opinions.

Northern Japan is absolutely beautiful at that time of year. It's a perfect time to be in Hokkaido and slightly south.

I do find Tokyo unbearable in July/August, but then I've never lived in the NT. For me it's the combination of humidity, intense sun, concrete reflections, and air conditioners blasting hot air outside...

I lived in Tokyo for a year nearly 20 years ago. As a QLDer, I didn't mind the heat in Summer. As a NT-ite, I doubt you'll notice.

If you're used to an NT summer, you're pretty much sorted when it comes to dealing with summer practically anywhere.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on how hot it is in Japan. We are heading off next Friday, 3 nights in Tokyo then flying up to Hokkaido for 10 days. The photos of the flower fields look stunning. Can't find a nice ryokan, and the hotels seem very busy. We are renting a car so looking forward to a different experience to the fabulous trip last year to see the cherry blossoms. Any suggestions for Hokkaido are welcome.

Just arrived back from a fantastic summer break in Hokkaido. I've posted a problem we have, as we forgot to post the wifi router and battery last night. Don't suppose anyone has any suggestions as you can't freight the lithium battery.... oh dear. Ideally a kind person flying to Japan from Brisbane tomorrow would would mail it, would be fabulous .....
