June 2012

That's a great idea - and thanks for compiling it.

Why don't we setup a shared Google Docs spreadsheet (or similar) to keep track of where everyone will be? That way everyone can update their own data, rather than one person having to maintain it all.

If the data is presented on these threads in a standard format, then its easy enough to just compile it and re-publish when new posts are made, for the above I would use as headings:
  1. NAME
  2. DATE
  3. AIRPORT CODE
  4. ARRIVAL TIME

I've set the table above to include the following, but as it was taking me too long (>1 sec) to transcribe from the previous June 2012 posts, I've just left it out
  • LOUNGE DETAILS
  • NO. of GUESTS Possible

The lounge details would be where you might put QF T2 F-Lounge etc.

I always find it hard to follow these monthly threads to figure out if I'll be in the same area as someone else, so I've taken some initiative and done the following.

It’s good, and the ideal solution is to have some sort of program that lists dates followed by cities alphabetically, with times and member names. There’s a solution on Flyertalk but I don’t think it’s that amazing.

The trouble with creating a list like that and expecting everyone that posts next to copy and paste is that inevitably it’ll break down, people wont follow it or they’ll be on their iPad/iPhone and entering the data will be too time consuming.

If I could program I’d lend a hand, but I can’t. And I don’t think it would be too tricky to have some sort of plugin for AFF that allows such data entry and displays it in an easy to understand format (but then I don’t code so what would I know) :p

I'm suggesting that posters just put *their* details up, and the combined list be updated for each new post (by myself or anyone else..) as the first post for each month? Its just a basic MS Access output, data can be copied and pasted into one table to produce , as long its presented in each post in the right format.

Only one problem, after a day you can no longer edit your post. You’d be asking a mod to constantly update the first post which may seem like a lot of work ;)

Unless admin can assign special permissions to one post of one thread to allow you to keep editing it past the allowed window?

Ah... hmmm.

That's just as much a pain to the mods. There is a google docs plugin for BBCode forums, not sure if this is used with AFF.

How about as a Blog? that can be editted, and there'd only be one month, that shouldn't hurt the AFF system too much? The thread can continue to be the place to post details and discuss as its used now?

Or... we could just go back to my original suggestion of a shared Google Docs spreadsheet, linked to from the first post in each month's thread. Is there any problem with that?

I haven't used Google Docs, but could it be susceptible to malicious attack if it was open to a large number of people to modify?

It's been a while since I've used it too, but yes, would be susceptible if it's completely open.

That being said, I think it supports versioning, so easy to roll back to an earlier version. Likewise, I think you can password protect it (with password shared here, at least to separate the document and the password to an extent), and/or specifically allow other people access to it.

Hi,

My husband and I are on QF 1 on the 5th June in J. We were looking forward to using our complimentary F lounge passes - but unfortunately my husband has lost his! We are heading to France for our first wedding anniversary so would love to start the holiday with lunch in the F lounge. If anyone is at the Sydney F lounge on the 5th and could guest my husband in that would be great!

Cheers
Nicole

Ps Happy to share the love and guest into the business lounge on our travels.

29th June QF 2 LHR to Syd
I am on QF 19 SYD/MNL at 12.35pm so would love to find an ivite to F lounge as well
