Flew on V America SFO-LAX yesterday. Must say still not too happy about the baggage arrangements in this V alliance. I flew main cabin select and had 3 bags at almost 32kg each. This is what I am entitled on V Australia in premium economy and as a silver member. V America told me as the booking was made separetly there was nothing they could do. However, in stead of charging me USD200 I was only charged USD50, so happy with that.I do think that the baggage allowances should be streamlined to reflect the international allowance even though booking was made separatley.. As long as you can provide a ticket to proof it..
Arrived at LAX at 6.30pm for a V Australia departure of 10.20pm..I was told that V had cancelled and that I was rebooked on a NZ chartered flight nonstop to SYD...The flight was leaving about 1hr later so no problems with that. It was a 747 and I had seating on lower deck, service was excellent and meals and wines perfect, I almost hear myself saying better than V itself....
My concern and issue is that I have now been told that by V Australia call centre today I will receive velocity point credits as flying on NZ rather than on V. Should I not be entitled to normal V Australia accrual?? What do you guys think????

We must have been in the lounge at the same time.... I flew back on NZ1...

So there were 3 NZ a/c departing LAX that night.... and from what the lounge staff said they were all full... I know the 773 I was on was!

I suspect my Y>BP upgrade only happened cos I hit Gold Elite again on Sunday! (Upgrade cleared Saturday US time... so Sunday in NZ?)

I would advise to ask for "original routing credit" as it was an involuntary change.

That may not be their (V's) exact term for it, but that's what i'd be looking for (presuming there's a difference in the credit earn).

if the earn was the same, then I wouldnt care.

Midday Monday I saw a V Australia 777 at Melbourne airport missing one of its engines. Might have been the plane you were supposed to fly on.

Just as a matter of interest, what is the difference in accrual rates?

I thought NZ Premium Economy earned at a greater rate than V.

Hey,

Just checked that and yes NZ accrual for premium economy is 1.5 and for V 1.25 per mile..So may be a winner there in the end!

A few things there don't add up.

Also, as much as we'd love for our Silver members to have benefits the world over, it is a requirement to book a connecting journey together to gain the full benefits of the program.
Yes we are both Virgin airlines, but as we are different companies, streamlining of something like baggage can only happen through booking of flights together.

Really?

I would have thought the Virgin "alliance" would be at least as close as, say, the Star Alliance.... and I routinely check my bags through with 2 different *A airlines... and on separate tickets...

Is it really that hard?

I actually would have assumed the virgin alliance was totally unlike star alliance... But anyhow do you have status or are you saying if you book in one class on one star alliance carrier that any ticket on any other carrier that follow obliges them to honour the terms of the previous (totally unrelated) ticket?

If you book, say, business in SQ and you book a totally unrelated Y NZ flight to connect to it are NZ obliged to offer you SQ Business class allowances?

In theory, no, but there isn't really any Virgin Alliance as such. It's three separate airlines (or four to six, depending on how you look at V Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue) that operate with similar branding.
