Hi all,

About 6 months ago I booked two Virgin flights for my partner and I to travel BNE-MIA in April 2016 with Webjet. They were cheap, and I think they are called a "saver" fare, so I was not expecting them to be refundable.

Unfortunately, due to one of us being a lying cheating scumbag :evil::evil:, he is no longer welcome on my holiday to the US next year!!! However since I paid in full for both flights, it is really unfortunate that this may cause me to be $1500 out of pocket over this (he is of course refusing to pay me back for his ticket now - he was supposed to pay me next month grrrr).

I contacted Webjet RE cancelling his ticket and I was very happy to hear that they can issue a travel credit, yay that's awesome! Very happy to hear that.

However Webjet state that the credit can only be used by the person named on the ticket :(

Does anyone know if this is a Webjet policy, or a Virgin one? Do you think there is any point in me contacting Virgin to cancel direct through them, would their policy be any different do you think?

I don't want any money back, I understand that they were non-refundable fares. I'd just really like to be able to use that travel credit myself if possible, that's all...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That is an interesting one. We've cancelled Virgin tickets before (albeit directly with Virgin) and have had the credit put into a travel bank (through Virgin) - it didn't matter who ended up using it.

I always thought that if there was a credit, it would be credited back to the person who paid for the ticket. If you can prove you paid for the ticket, then I think you should pursue it further with Webjet. As you say, you don't want a refund, but you do want to be able to use the credit down the track. This policy does not sound right to me so I wouldn't be accepting this response.

Sorry to hear about your situation - hopefully you'll still have an awesome time!

Let us know how you get on - will be very interested to hear.

I had a couple of flights booked and paid by work thru Corporate Traveller, that had to be cancelled, and the credit went into my travel bank :)

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's pretty much what I had hoped would happen.

I don't have to make any decisions yet I still have months to make up my mind what to do so I may just leave it as it is for now and come back to it later. Will update this thread when I action the cancellation and confirm what happened :)

Because hes a lying cheating scumbag, could he be vindictive enough to cancel the entire booking just to screw you over and if yes, can he do that as one of the travellers listed on the reservation?

BE WARNED, IT WILL BE RUFUNDED TO YOUR SCUMBAG AND YOU SEPARATELY, i had this issue, I paid with a Virgin Money credit card no less, for my partner and i to fly in J to Cairns, we had to cancel due to a death in the family. They would not refund either directly to me or to my travel bank, split it into her name and mine. This was incredibly frustrating as i planned to book and pay for another more expensive fare on an international segment and offset the cost with the refund. which i couldnt do obviously. we used her travel bank, but now i have $900 sitting in a travel bank in my name.

Its is a moronic idea by virgin to do this, i have written a complaint about it to virgin. Logically you would think it would be refunded to the person who paid.

Interesting. Was it Virgin who did this directly or through a third party (agent)? I've never had the issue with Virgin when I've cancelled flights directly with them - it just goes into a travel bank (ie we cancelled 2 tickets and the money was credited to the travel bank for my partner - I didn't have to have my credit paid separately). I'd definitely follow up with Virgin - doesn't make any sense that if YOU pay, someone else gets the benefit of the credit.

As an aside, I would have thought legally it would open up a can of worms - if the money is taken from MY credit card, then to have a travel bank credit (effectively using my money) issued to someone else could be a bit of a problem.

Just had a look at your thread. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from your post I understand that both your fiancee and yourself had a travel bank credit (in separate accounts) which you wanted to combine into your travel bank account to purchase new tickets? If that's the case, then I do understand why Virgin wouldn't allow it - they are separate travel bank accounts. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I'm assuming it would have something to do with ensuring that accounts aren't fraudulently used. However, in the situation whereby the new ticket was going to be purchased for both yourself and your fiancee I would have thought common sense would have prevailed. Guess not in this case.

The situation above is one whereby the OP paid for two tickets and just wants to have all of the money (in this case a credit) refunded to her - not to her ex partner (who didn't pay for the ticket). In this case, then Webjet and/or Virgin should not credit the ex partner as it wasn't his money. Hopefully it can be resolved asap and quite rightly as noted above, should be sorted out sooner rather than later just in case the ex partner is advised that he holds a credit and uses it.

If you pay for flights (naturally including yourself) which includes other people you need to ensure you are listed at the primary (lead / no.1) traveller. In the event of a refund/travel bank credit it gets credited back to this traveller.
Like anything, rules cover a good 90% of the target audience but there will the minority where it doesn't work.

At the end of the day its up to you how you manage your money.
If you are travelling with friends you would tend to agree on dates, flights and then separately book rather than one person paying and collecting money from friends. Though again it's a personal decision.

What's on this board is merely input based on personal experiences and recommendations. In your particular case, you need to engage with the travel agent direct.

Hahahaha that is AWESOME!!!!! :)

I'm still pondering my options for this so haven't taken any action I still have a few months before I need to make any firm plans. But wow what a cool thing to do! Not sure I'd be that brave :)
