Just reached QF WP - how I did it, and a few questions! :)

Hi all,

It's official - my QF account has just been updated to show WP status after qualifying about a week ago! It's been quite a few months of heavy flying (I was only QF NB in February...) - aside from a couple of short domestic flights, all of my qualifying flights have been from December onwards, and I'd be still be WP without the short hops... so I believe I've earned the right to say that I qualified for WP in just 5 months, at the age of 22 :p

Congrats on reaching WP

I hope all your AF and OW aspirations for that status are delivered

I expect to be WP for the 1st time in the next 6-8 weeks, so will look forward to an uplift on treatment from gold

Currently typing this from BA/QF F lounge in BKK.

Not a scrap on Syd/Mel F lounge, so hopefully as WP you can enjoy those benefits as well

Good luck

B
Thanks! How was your F flight (assumed unless you were the guest of an F/WP)? :)
Congrats as well!

The double status credit offer really helped and I am  that I don't have that offer at the moment

As of next week I'll be starting my way up from Bronze to Silver by early June and then Gold by early August easily

Platinum is a big ask for me... I'll be happy to sit at Gold for a bit
Thanks also! I was checking my email at work, and as soon as I saw the double SC message, I almost jumped out of my seat! Without the email, I would have most likely remained PS or SG, and perhaps spent more energy improving on my *A status... now that I'm essentially 'locked in', I'll be sticking with OW wherever practical... though if OW airlines operated on all of the (overseas) routes that I've flown in the past year, I'd be WP several times over (WP1)... now that Air Berlin has joined, I might be in with a chance in the years to come! :D Sorry to hear about your Bronze situation - I usually post most of my upcoming flights on AFF, so if I can ever help you out with lounges, don't be shy! :)

Admittedly I had to ask Google to remind me who that is, but according to Wikipedia, his birthday is towards the end of May, so he's currently 21 (I'm 22) - so that's a no haha... wouldn't he be CL anyway? :)

Congratz m8, i am hoping to be where you are at later this month.

As to your question about special treatment on lower tier, i got a 4 row to my self on a domestic when it was at least 75% full. My row was the only row that had less than 2 people as i was in the second half of the plane, basically boarded last, so i could lie down and that was sweet :)

by the sounds of it, you probably dont need platinum anyway ;)

I would suggest the extra privileges may have been given because of appearance reasons, or perhaps thats what is being alluded?

So ChrisCh..................................... are you hot? I would also be interested in seeing a photo now hahaha.

I'm going to be very careful not to offend or stereotype here as that is not what this forum is about, but think about it - the airline industry has a high proportion of males that may, ahh, not live the 'traditional family life'. Many of the WPs they see on a day to day basis would be more senior in age and may not have time to hit the gym 5 times a week to stay in peak physical condition because of the very frequent travel they do (its not a healthy lifestyle!). The novelty of having a young, attractive male who also holds status may not be lost of the QF staff and they may go out of their way to make a fuss. It's like a pretty girl not having to line-up to get into a nightclub - its an industry where looks get you ahead.

I have received random perks from male VA cabin crew over the years when they have been particularly 'friendly and chatty' with me, and I'm 28 (and only VA Silver).

Are you telling me you wouldn't flirt a little to reap the rewards?

If it makes any difference, I always make a point of smiling and being nice to the airline staff (both in the air, and on the ground) - and don't do it in the hope of getting free things or special treatment, but because I have a friend that works in the airline industry, and I hear many tales... some of the rubbish they have to put up with from passengers is just atrocious, and I wouldn't ever want to be like some of those people!

Plus, a few manners never hurt anyone :p I probably should also mention that, with the exception of one flight, I *always* sit in the exit rows when flying long haul economy, and often chat to the crew if they seem interested... I never ask for (nor expect) any special treatment when travelling in Y, though I'm of course very grateful for the handfull of times that the crew have gone out of their way to look after me (whatever their reasons may be). :)

I think you have your answer above (my bolding).

I was going to say that you sound like a really nice person & someone who sounds like they would be a great passenger to have onboard.

I remember Taezar had a similar experience on a flight when the passenger next to her asked if she was on TV. When she said no, the other pax said "the crew were so nice to you".

Too many people out there think it's a one way street & expect everything, yet give nothing in return.

Haha well to answer your question Smit, my partner thinks so ;) ... and I won't be posting a photo on here - I like being somewhat anonymous, though feel free to judge for yourself if you happen to see me in a lounge or if I ever make it to an AFF meet-up. :) And most of the time, the attention comes from female cabin crew (one of whom spent an entire flight thinking of a legitimate reason for giving me her contact details haha - had to give her credit for that one), though most of the attention has never seemed to be because of my looks (on QF anyway, BA is another story... ;))

And ozbeachbabe - sounds like that could well be the reason... some of the long-haul crew have even felt so comfortable with me during the flight that they have shared some of the other passengers' complains and comments... some of them made me laugh quite hysterically, while others made me wonder why anyone would ever speak to a crew member like that!!! The highlight complaint would have been from a Y passenger - "I can't recline my seat all the way because that fat coughk is taking up all my coughking recline room... what are you going to do about it???" ... the crew's response was to approach the woman after the man had returned to his (middle) seat and was well within earshot - "ma'am, economy seats can often feel cramped, but we'd like to make you as comfortable as possible. If you'd like, we have a spare seat 'up the front' to give you a little extra room to stretch out - would you like to move?" ... the grumpy man was *furious* at what he perceived to be a free upgrade to Business (while still stuck in his middle seat), while in fact the woman he complained about was simply moved to an empty row of 3 seats in a different part of Economy... he can't really complain though - he got his full recline after all ;) haha!
