Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, but has anyone transited from KLIA to KLIA2?

I am looking at landing at KLIA on MH from Langkawi at either 9pm or midnight, then flying out to Banda Aceh on AirAsia the next morning at 0740. Is the transit quick and easy?

If so, which flight would you take? I am thinking of booking one of the Sama Sama transit hotels for the leg overnight.

Grateful for any and all advice.

KLIA Ekspress is an easy way of getting between the terminals. Takes a couple of minutes.
Best to pre-purchase the tickets online, usually much cheaper than buying it on the day.
If you don't pre purchase, to save time you can just scan your credit card at the turnstile on entrance to the station at KLIA and exit at KLIA2.

Tons of people have :)

The transfer between terminals takes about 2-3 minutes on the KLIA Ekspres train.

While there are certain discounts on KLIA Ekspres, it's not a big consideration on the terminal transfer which costs all of 2 ringgit ... about 67 cents.

Yup. Walk in the park. If you arrive at midnight there is a train to KLIA2 at 1210, 1235 and 0110. Depending on how intrepid you're feeling, you've even got time to hit Sentral and enjoy a curry and a tiger at Brickfields (might come in handy before BA). I'm envious.

I did a similar thing a couple of months ago. I took the free shuttle bus that goes directly from the bus bays of KLIA to KLIA2. I just followed the signs. I was on a budget so I stayed at the capsule hotel at KLIA2.

As mentioned the transit between the 2 is easy. Just note immigration at both can be very slow if you don't have fast track.

I also stayed at the transit hotel in the satellite terminal and it's quite ok for a transit hotel. From memory AUD80 for 6 hours.

Touche :) I should have referred to our intrepid readers.

Excellent, good to know. I think this might be the go. How was immigration? (assuming you went Domestic in KLIA to International in KLIA2)

Alas no fast track, i am only a lowly Oneworld Sapphire. Transit hotel seems like the way to go.

Done this also, stayed at the Tune Hotel, a short well signposted walk from KLIA2 (and I was even transitting overnight T1-T1). Was quite a bit cheaper than airside or landside transit hotels for the length of my stay.

We also stayed at the Tune hotel. Was quite a while ago but the web site seems to indicate not much has changed. Did the job for a short stay, bit of noise in the corridors because people were coming and going all the time

I've not had fast track as an Emerald either and even in business the fast track can be hit and miss.
Business (MH) should always receive fast-track long haul and sometimes need to ask for it on short haul (eg: SIN-KUL). I have a spare pass or two I can pass to you in HKG...

I've been fortunate in my experiences through KLIA2, never having to wait more than 10 minutes, but can easily imagine nightmarish queues during peak times. Best not to dally.

After immigration there is a BS security checkpoint where you just put bags through scanners and don't need to remove anything when you go through the metal detector. You have to pass through a separate full security screening when you proceed down to the gates.

The 'BS' screening is Customs ;-) They're looking for you taking specific products out of the country

Thanks. The times they haven't had the fast track they said they weren't loaded and I've had this excuse with a few carriers such as RJ landing into BKK.

Edit - Why does customs have walk-through metal detectors? That's odd.

And staff do a great job - usually not looking at the screen, or even asleep :)

Last time we left KLIA I handed in a passport to the gate security they checked it and waved me through. My wife was just behind me and asked for her passport back so she could go through. I had mixed up the passports and had happily been passed through on her passport - and we certainly do not resemble each other.

As a poster said further up - why not hire a grab car for a couple of hours to drive you around town for a bit and then get a nice hotel. at those times traffic shouldnt be a problem.
