Prospective low-cost operator Koala Airlines aims to enter the highly challenging Australian market in an attempt to take on incumbents with a “fundamentally” different strategy.

The Melbourne-headquartered operator says it is “finalising negotiations to acquire a fleet that will enable our Air Operator’s Certificate to be upgraded with the new aircraft type”.

They've been around for a while operating charter services. Formerly known as Koala Air Australia. Changed their name around mid 2023 that I recall.
 
Fundamentally different strategy? What else is there that hasn't been tried and failed previously?

All business class (Ozjet): FAIL
Ultra low cost (Tiger): FAIL
Regional only (Bonza): FAIL
Pick up the dregs "value carrier" (Rex): FAIL

My guess; they'll definitely make a small fortune if they put plans into action (to take from the old aviation joke).
