Transfer away, SQ AFFers!

Hmm interesting. Not sure it's worth the risk. At least you can convert Westpac etc into gift cards if flying remains off limits for a while.

Interesting - due to covid cancelled trips earlier this year, I have 500K in KF points which need to be used (2+ years until expiry). As my pre-covid points strategy was somewhat geared towards KF points, I have a Diners and Dragon

I didn't transfer 135K Diners points to VA before they shut VA-KF transfer --- which would've amounted to 88K KF points --- this transfer opportunity allows me to make 77K KF points (instead of 67K KF points, which redeems some of the loss due to VA)

I have 250K+ in Amplify points (125K+ in KF points) sitting there, which if transferred now would net an extra 19K KF points.

Question is the 10KF (Diners) and 19K (Amplify) 15% bonus enough to make the transfer but start the 3 year expiry clock ticking - thoughts?

I have close to 1 million Krisflyer miles.... I would probably consider if it's a 25% bonus...

Similar thoughts here. I have a bit over 1M KF, clearly don’t need any more miles I can’t use ATM but having said that I have no intention of using my credit card points for any other purpose but flying so would probably be tempted to convert if bonus offer was slightly higher...

This is great news, really wanting to diversify away from QF & with only 140k KrisFlyer points but 1 Million Amex stashed away, I’m seriously contemplating this 15% Bonus in addition to taking out the new Amex Explorer and securing further points to transfer. The 3 year expiry is the killer but will never have enough of Singapore trip or other short hops across the SQ work if 2021 will be kinder to us all.

I can understand wanting to diversify away from QF, as KF is so much a better program (well it was pre-covid) - however, you might want to hedge your bets a little, as the 3 year expiry is a bit of a worry --- nevertheless if you travel regularly and with the recent vaccine news, things might turn out ok

Will SQ be flying in 3 years time? Love the idea of the 15% bonus.

If SQ aren’t flying in 3 years time, then I’d say QF will just be a domestic carrier. And a whole raft of other airlines will have failed. Singapore Inc needs SQ and will do what it can do keep it afloat. And if the world is in such a state that for whatever reason Singapore government is not in a position to keep SQ afloat, then a few credit card or FF points here and there will be the least of our worries.

If there was no expiry I would totally transfer my Amex and ANZ points, but I already hold enough in my SQ account from a Velocity transfer. SQ’s expiry policy is clearly counter-intuitive. People would transfer more often if they didn’t have it - which would ultimate benefit SQ by creating more member engagement. There would be a lot of us that would have taken advantage of this offer, but haven’t/won’t solely on this fact.

Same story as many for me - already have a bunch (650k) and no guarantee of being able to use them all before they expire. Ask me again in 12 months time.

With over a million KF points in my acct and the 3 year clock ticking, and no end date to the ban on OS travel, i rather keep me pts with StG. If they removed the 3 year expiry date, I could transfer 1.4 mill KF points over with a nice 15 % bonus.

I think i'm going to cash out my dragons points on this promo... even with the clock ticking on 3 years expiry. Converted in December 2020 means December 2023 expiry, right?

CC Fees are expensive to maintain open cards, and given we're looking down the barrel of having to close CC's later next year to bolster borrowing serviceability, probably makes sense in our POV, even with the back log of points and limited flying opportunities.

... and add the fact that their A380s may not return thus decreasing the already reduced 1st reward availability.

I was set to redeem for a NY rtn 1st booking for us for May 2021 (via Europe). Those points came from VFF before the devaluation on the transfer rate. So we've already got a time bomb working against us.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to encourage everyone with KF points to email SIA & say I would if you extended ALL existing points expiry to 3 years from Nov 30th.

SIA is not as desperate for cash as Q but it is desperate.

This is pretty nice. I have about half the points needed for 2x *A RTW J redemptions with 2 years validity and a tonne of AMEX points.

I think I will do the math and transfer just enough for the rtw flights, probably, after I sleep on it.

hmmm.. unsure on what to do...
I have 4mil in KF right now....still tempted by this 15% for my STG amplify points

I'm sure SQ would extend if it really came to it and 3yrs down the track if we're still not flying.. the world will be in a shi**y place

Maybe SIA might get some informal feedback with less transfers than expected??
Now you know the world is not logical nor free of vested interests (unlike AFF of course! ;)

Never assume they'll interpret a lack of response in the way you hope - remember within companies, and within the depts that there is always a pecking order (& kicking order) with rewards filtering towards the top &....

Typically written feedback (especially if 20 words or more) is taken to indicate that around 100 other people also have that opinion/issue but do not take the effort to do something about it for all manner of reasons (they won't take any notice of me, what's the point, I'm too busy etc etc).

Alternatively if 20 or 30 or more people (AFFers & friends/relatives) email SIA and state that they'd like to take up the 15% offer but won't unless all existing points have their expiry date changed to 3 years from now = interpreted as 2,000 to 3,000 people not taking up the offer who otherwise would have. If SIA get this response within hours or days of launching the offer.....

Hey, SIA could even make that a BENEFIT of taking up this offer - sell it as a customer service....

Wouldn't hurt to make this suggestion in your email....

However on the flip side - some news - glass half full/empty...

SIA will complete refurbing 3 more A380s to have a final fleet of 12 for future operations, but that makes a 50% total reduction in A380s vs 3 years ago.

So 1st class availability is down 75%. Was 24 x 12 = 288 suites, now will be 12 x 6 = 72 larger suites.

Still 72 is better than none, although that is the number available for $$ purchase - not points redemption.

NY rtn is looking harder.
