Alright, I need an extra 4600 Krisflyer miles within the next couple months to qualify for Gold. As I am based in SYD, I am struggling to find many mileage run options. I was looking at about $830 for a trip to HKG and back, which will more than cover it.
Do you think there are better options if flying VA or NZ to accrue these miles? Or will the costs come in to be similar?

Can you take advantage of the cheap US fares currently on offer? A lot of miles for the $1000.

Hey, is SQ Gold that important? Is it mainly for lounge access or extra miles earning? Why not use the funds to "buy" a Citibank Visa Prestige or American Express Platinum card that have unlimited priority pass access? Lounges won't be as good but they will come with some bonus points each and other benefits. Are you familiar with these cards?

Eg

If you don't already have it, the Platinum Charge Amex comes with 120,000 (via a referral - PM me if interested) which almost gets your Aus - Europe return on KrisFlyer (eg SYD- AMS on new A350). Cost $1200. Amex also provides Virgin Lounge, Delta Lounge and American Express Lounge (ie in Sydney which is relevant to you)

The Visa Prestige comes with 70,000 that convert to 46,667 odd KrisFlyer points. Cost $700 however if you qualify for Citigold it's $350 along with some other perks.

Id choose the American Express route just for the points alone, not to mention the free flights etc... If you aren't familiar with the Amex Platinum Charge jump on their website or search these forums - you get some hotel status along with the card as well. (Previously got Marco Polo gold which was amazing as you could take a friend to any one world lounge, but I digress)

Gday

locopano the citibank exchange rate is now worse. Those 70,000 citi points are worth 35,000 Krisflyer points.

Pele.
