However unlikely, I am hoping for a points expiry extension beyond the normal 3 years plus 6 months (paid). An extra 6 months would come in handy.

I was thinking about this too. Hilton have extended their expiration point for points, I am hoping SQ do too.

Me too. Any news on a status extension period from SIA?

VA's extension is good. Hilton said to be coming up with a plan. Hertz have yet to reply to me/announce.

Interested to see what SIA come up with.....

SQ already announced their extensions for selected members

only if short by less than 20% of the required requalification criteria - possibly only for silver and gold flyers, maybe regular PPS?

we've only got to halfway as we cancelled 2 paid R flights to Europe but got PPS solitaire renewal for another year

Thank you. I missed this one along the lines!

My account still shows the same date required to maintain Gold.

So I guess it will just stay that way. Oh well.

Tough times all round.

Real shame that Singapore airlines/Krisflyer wont come to the party like all the other airlines with a helping hand for all those with significant points holdings in the Krisflyer program

Bit of a bummer. I do have in writing through email that when it comes close to my Star Gold review date in Nov 2020 an extension or match may be granted if I have made a reasonable effort to maintain or have ongoing future bookings.

So for me that means as soon as all this is lifted and we are allowed to travel again I need to book as many legs with SIA as possible.

To add, they have been great with instant cancellations and replies...compared with VA or Hainan who I am both yet to see ANYTHING back.

I have a large portion of points cancelling in June, which we were going to use for a trip next April. If I book a trip, am I able to postpone it or would it be better to pay points to extend for 6 months?

I have been hoping for a 6 month extension on expiry too. (at least)

Email from CEO came through tonight.

Dear ......
I hope you and your loved ones are well in these extraordinary times.
Few, if any, of us could have imagined a global pandemic like this as country after country bans international travel due to a viral outbreak. While the measures to contain Covid-19 have been taken from a public health perspective, they have crippled the airline industry and presented us at Singapore Airlines with the greatest challenge in our history.
Our customers and staff always remain our top-priority. That principle guided many of our decisions over the last two months as we responded to the increasingly global scale of the outbreak, as well as the growing number of border closures that have decimated air travel.
We know that you trust us to deliver a safe flying experience and ground environment. That is why we modified our in-flight service to reduce the risks to our customers and crew while in the air, and stepped up our cleaning and disinfection procedures both in the aircraft and our ground facilities such as the SilverKris lounges.
Even as we scaled back our operations due to the borders closures, we understood that many of you and your loved ones needed to return home as soon as possible. And you trusted us to make that possible. That is why, despite the fast deteriorating operating economics, we persisted with services to key cities for as long as we could.
We have received many encouraging notes from our customers over the last few weeks. Thank you, your warm words of appreciation mean a great deal to us during this trying time.
At the same time, we also know that many of you have been adversely affected by the large-scale flight cancellations. I sincerely apologise for this.
Our teams have received an unprecedented volume of calls, messages and emails over the last few weeks. While we ramped up the handling capacity at our customer services centres, a few of our overseas contact centre operations were disrupted by government-imposed lockdowns. As a result, we know that we might have caused you considerable frustration and anxiety. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we do everything we can to support your needs, and respond to you as soon as possible.
In view of the uncertainty amid the Covid-19 outbreak, the value of the unused portion of your tickets will be retained as flight credits when your flight has been cancelled or if you would like to postpone your travel. You can use those credits to make a new booking any time from now until 31 March 2021. We have also waived no-show and rebooking fees. Please contact us here when you firm up your new travel plans.
I would also like to share that we will automatically renew all KrisFlyer Elite and PPS Club membership statuses for another 12 months at the end of your respective membership year. This applies to all memberships expiring from March 2020 through to February 2021. The validity of any expiring PPS and Elite Gold Rewards will also be extended until 31 March 2021. You can find out more here.
This is a small token of our appreciation for your loyalty and support, which we value greatly as we work hard to get through this outbreak.
For more than 70 years, SIA has set the standard for in-flight products and services in the aviation industry. It remains unclear when the Covid-19 outbreak will be brought under control. But when it does, you can be sure that we will be ready to welcome you back on board and deliver, once again, the exceptional service that you have come to expect and are familiar with.
Until then, please stay safe and healthy.
Yours Sincerely,

Which is great, except it doesn't address the many members who don't hold status but DO hold a significant number of Krisflyer points which can't be used at this time. It only seems fair that those members should also receive an expiry extension, given that we're burning through weeks/months of their validity at the moment.

Can you just book the seats you require as they become available for travel next April. They should be coming online fairly soon although you may find they are all advantage and no saver available.

Can someone please confirm my understanding of this Term in the Kris T&Cs:

A KrisFlyer membership account which has not recorded any activity for a consecutive period of 39 months from the date of the last recorded activity will be closed without prior notice. A KrisFlyer account that has been inactive for a consecutive period of 18 months from the date of commencement of membership will also be closed.

1. I'm assuming a points transfer from an Amex CC counts as "recorded activity" and therefore points I transferred in April 2019 rest the 39 month countdown?

That's correct. Any point earning activity on your Krisflyer account (ie. flying or CC transfers) will reset the 39 months. So, your April 2019 transfer will keep your account active until July 2022 if there was no further activity.

Just be aware that keeping your account active is NOT the same as keeping your miles from expiring.
Expiry of miles does not get reset.

Yep. Thanks. I’m across miles expiry. I’m still goon on that for ~18months.

I just didn’t want the account shut down with the miles sitting in there.

My relo’s account expired with no activity and a small amount of points. An email was sent explaining the situation and they have reinstated the account and the few points but said they will not extend them a second time.

I may, but I'm unsure if we will be able to travel to the UK and Italy in early 2021. I might suck it up and pay for the extension of points, then book something later in the year.

See post 17 regarding some flexibility on SQ‘s behalf. If considering paying for an extension, you could email them to ask for one before buying one.

Good idea. In the thread about VA-KF points, someone posted that they were told of a 6 month extension for points from KF. Fingers crossed! I transferred all my VA points out before the closure of that option, thank goodness.
