Kuala Lumpur Hilton vs Doubletree

Looks like access to Hilton KL from Sentral will improve, rather than the current odd route through the carpark lifts (which are often busy)

As part of the construction of the Muzium Negara MRT which connects to KL Sentral it looks like there will be a better path to the hotel compared to the current carpark route.

They are widening the narrow pathway near McDonalds in Sentral that takes you past Subway and Starbucks (where the FX counters are for those that know it). Then up some lifts to a new bridge which should provide direct entry to the lobby level of Hilton and Le Meridien, as well as access to St Regis, office buildings and the new MRT.

New MRT will also be a few stops to Bukit Bintang so more convenient than the monorail.

All forecast to open mid-2017.

Also appears that the Ampang Park Mall, across the road from the Doubletree will be torn down to make way for construction of a new MRT station as part of the second MRT line.

Bugger! That place has the most competitive currency exchange in whole of Malaysia. I sometime choose to stay at DT just for that. Now I'll have to find a new place. :(
For me, the choice between DT and Hilton are as follows: DT - best value reward redemption amongst the 3 choices in KL. If the 10K redemption is not available, I'll be looking at Hilton as they're definitely more convenient from the airport express especially if you have lots of luggages, etc. and Hilton KL usually have their deluxe rooms at 26K+ points redemption which is not bad at all. Hilton PJ is quite good too, only RM$15 (fixed price) taxi ride from Sentral.

Interesting. I'd always used the booths at KL Sentral - near McDonalds..

Although suspect they may have disappeared in the recent widening of the passageways at Sentral referred two in my earlier post on Sentral

If you've ever heard of a Citibank Plus debit card (takes only a few days to open/receive with no requirements and no monthly fees), you can withdraw fee free from ANY atm in malaysia despite ATM saying you'll be charged. I used it recently and you will get a near perfect rate without having to change money anywhere you go because you can withdraw as required ($30 aud = 100 myr). You can also use this card to pay at restaurants or stores with perfect rate. Everyone who is travelling here should sign up for one and transfer money here, safer, cheaper and more convenient than lugging around or managing a tonne of money or having to find a good currency exchange place.
