Hi
Just after some advice on a place to stay in Kyoto
2 adults and 2 children (10 & 8 )

Cheers in advance

Granvia above the station is a big Western style hotel and very convenient.
But heaps of boutiques and ryokan in Kyoto.

Really depends on what your after and price

I stayed at Ibis Styles, which was across the road from Kyoto JR Station. It was very cheap, clean and convenient, BUT the room was tiny. It was just barely big enough to fit a double bed. You might need to book two rooms, especially with the kids. Worth considering if you're not planning to hang out in the hotel all day. It was perfect for my partner and I, since we did a lot of sightseeing and only returned to the hotel to sleep.

We enjoyed the Hyatt Regency Kyoto some years back. It's fairly western in style though with small rooms (even by Japanese standards) but it was a good base in a city that is quite traditional.

I also stayed at the Granvia and recommend it. Good breakfast. The station is an amazing building with lots to entertain children, and there is a good food hall of the quality that only the Japanese can do. It's a good base. The was a coordinated water fountain and music display just out the front, around 8pm, that the kids would like. The buses are also outside.

The Granvia has very long corridors. My room was cheaper as it was further from the lifts. If that sort of thing worries you, get closer to the lifts.

Stayed in Citadines serviced apartments - very nice, very central, right next to a metro station, free breakfast and laundry facilities. Highly recommended

We stayed at Westin a few years ago and it was good location and relatively large rooms, or maybe we got a suite, I can't remember. Anyway will stay there again next month and will have more updated review.

I have booked hotel Mume Mume Boutique Hotel in Kyoto, Japan for our stay in October. It will push our budget, but it is the type of experience I want for me and my 11 year old son. I haven't yet been to Kyoto and tend to agree with cosi, but I was worried about the strict time schedule and food offerings of some Ryokans for my 11 year old. Hotel Mume, would appear to offer a good balance of Japanese style and hospitality mixed with western style boutique hotel.

You will not be disappointed at Mume

Another +1 for the Hyatt Regency.

I wouldn't have said the rooms were small. Pretty standard hotel room size. Really good bathroom I thought. What stood out for me was how friendly and helpful the hotel staff were.

Loved the Hotel Granvia, at the station, but for our next trip, I would pick something smaller and less expensive. Beautiful hotel but there are other central choices that gives easy access to the trains and buses.

Another vote for Citadines, which is perfect as a couple. Unsure if they have apartments with two bedrooms though? If so, would be great for families and particularly so if you want to self-cater food (assuming the kids are fussy).

Another one for Hyatt. I thought the rooms were quite large. Bathroom was lovely.

Yes. Great staff

Agree on the bathrooms. Really well thought out and executed. Certainly one of the better hotel bathrooms I've experienced.

The THE ROYAL PARK HOTEL is a reasonable option, centrally located & with a good restaurant.
