As I have said before Mrsdrron is not adverse to camping as long as there are 5 stars overhead. So accommadation in Luang prabang was always going to be a problem.reading extensively we surmised this was the hotel for Luang Prabang. When we had it booked for november 2008 it was ~ $US250 a night.Unfortunately for 2009 it was now $US400 a night though the rate included a free dinner, free cooking school and a couple of other extras.
The service began at arrival at LPQ.The rep for La Residence was at the baggage hall-all other hotel reps were outside the terminal. The setting of the hotel is fantastic-view from pool and restaurant-

Although we are in the cheapest room type believe it or not,the room is excellent and as soon as I enter i know my brownie point account just got bonus points. From flowers on the bed-

To the fruit and a bottle of champagne-

Run out of picture space so continued after dinner.

The bath was large enough for the 2 of us-

And there was a great balcony with 2 daybeds-

Interesting grounds-

So it really was a nice hotel, good service. The restaurant had excellent food but was expensive-fortunately breakfast was included.this was good.some unusual juices such as Tamarind and Hibiscus-both acquired tastes obviously.fantastic crepes and pastries-but then it is a French hotel.
Not great value but if we were to go back to LP we would stay there again unless something else good opens. We looked at several of the other options and they were no where near as nice(though possibly better value).
