On another note has anyone received their upgrade to gold as per status challenge or confirmation of same ? Or is it likely to be done automatically on 1 Dec ?

Do they show up on the United and/or ANA website?

So far, for the month I'm watching, the availability showing on UA and VA is the same.

That's what I've found also. I suspect if a seat is showing on both the VA and UA websites, it would also be available to book using KrisFlyer miles but you might have to book over the phone rather than the Singapore Airlines website.

SQ has been blocking star alliance partners from accessing award inventory on SQ's SIN routes apparently due to the complexity around transit rules. So that is basically all of their routes except a handful of 5th freedom routes (such as JFK/FRA). There have been suggestions that there has been some reciprocity amongst some carriers (i.e that they are blocking SQ from accessing their award inventory in return).
