Just sitting in VA lounge in BNE, just checked there are no public land line phones but on asking there is one on one of the reception counters that customers are able to use on request, my brother called me this morning as he has used the BNE QF Business lounge 3 times in the last four days and this time (Sat AM) there were NO LANDLINES in the lounge, but 48 hours ago there was ONE ( which was available next to one the the PC's) (wonder if they remove it under the cover of darkness)
He questioned staff about this and was told that most people have a mobile these days, he replied that most people have a shower at home also?
Seems it musr be a cost cutting measure to conciously remove land line phones from lounges, but I have not been into the QF club in BNE to see what is happening there?
Any other similar experiences around the country?

Would sort of agree... most people (even the teenagers and younger) are carrying a mobile.

Seems in line with the SIN lounge decision to not install PCs/Macs as most people carry a tablet/laptop (and there are plenty of PCs in the airport itself)...
Thankfully this forum at least helped get a printer installed (even if they make it difficult for PCs to print to it)

So how does management call the lounge?
How do the lounge staff call security/housekeeping/maintenance/fire services/medical?

Or are they expected to use their own mobiles?

No landline does not pass the sniff test. Nobody takes all the landlines out of commercial premises. (Although I do know of many residentials that utilise mobiles only)

Good point AVC. NZ's Koru Club lounges in MEL (and I think SYD) still have landline phones. Why shouldn't they? it's a good service.

I would suggest that there would be one or two for staff use. If they allow customers to use it then they would not be able to receive or make phone calls. Make sense?

As for the OP: yes, you have a shower at home but you didn't bring it with you to the lounge did you? Most people also have a kitchen at home - should there be one in the lounge???

"Captain Oveur, white courtesy phone...."

I think that if I was in the lounge & I really really needed to make a phone call, I'd get my phone charger out of my pocket, find one of the numerous power points around & charge my phone. I think there are still pay phones around the airport, aren't there?

Of course! How else would they prepare our tasty snacks??

I see the point of not having landlines available for customer use, but in a J or F lounge it seems a tad crazy. You give your lounge guests free food and drinks but you don't let them make a phone call?

Maybe it should be restricted to national calls though, you don't want someone talking OS for ages.
