Large release of Qantas Business & Economy reward seats to London & Rome [Oct '23]

I didn’t use up any points. I still have enough for multiple return trips to where I want to go. I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

By the time I found out this promo was on there were no J classic rewards left for the route I need at the time of year I would have leave to go

Disappointed that Qantas have removed 787 Mel-Per leg of QF9. Now replaced with the 737 (QF775). Not surprised that they released the extra redemption seats then made this change.

I'm in the same boat. I mean, I still would have booked the PER - LHR segment regardless... Just would have liked some choice on the bird I fly west.

What's the likelihood of QF putting you on a different plane or rerouting on QF1? I primarily want to depart via an International Terminal.

There’s an A330 dept 1.5 hours earlier however. This far out the domestic schedules are only indicative, might well change by then

The app is showing no alternatives when I click through so I’ll just suck it up on this occasion. It does leave a bit of a bad taste though.

I'm not entirely convinced there is any "news" here - for periods of the timetable in the past (definitely earlier this year) QF9/10 did not run to/from MEL as tags every day of the week, Sometimes the sectors just not scheduled, and on occasion I have seen them scheduled as A330 (this seemed rare though).

I suspect into the next (northern summer 2024) schedule, with 787's going from PER to LHR/FCO and CDG, they may be saving a shell at some point by doing this (noting the QF5/6,33/34 tag from/to SYD also).

It certainly is frustrating that not only does MEL no longer have the QF9/10 A380 service, we won‘t even have the 787 connection to PER.

A one-off release is just more empty marketing from Qantas. But people get sucked in by the positive headlines so job done.

oh so it's a lucky dip? I booked QF10 to MEL specially in Dec looking to fly the 787

Can you give a date example for this?

I've done some further digging in the 2024 timetable and QF9 MEL-PER appears to be daily just about every month I checked. Indeed between 04APR24 and 05OCT24 QF9 is scheduled daily 1515-1715 in the timetable.

Now of course timetabled doesn't mean there's availability on any specific date....

And it's still scheduled to fly daily (and as a 787 that I can see)

My comment was that I noticed a RARE occasion (I forget exactly when it was, but it was in the last six or so months) where it was either scheduled or operated by a 330. Going to go with a last minute swap for whatever reason. I doubt it was actually scheduled that way.

Point is. don't panic :)

There's been what - 3 in the last 12 months? A 3-off release? 🤣

All I can say is I'm out of points and it appears so are many others.
I’m not but I’ve burnt more points on J longhaul classic rewards in the last 2 yrs (with two more trips to come) than I possibly have in the previous 10!
