Large release of Qantas Business & Economy reward seats to London & Rome [Oct '23]

No it isn't.

The last MEL-PER-MEL QF9/10 is scheduled for mid July. After that, the service is cancelled.

The final MEL-PER-LHR QF9 will be on Saturday 13 July 2024.
OK, I see now from doing actual availability searches it doesn't show up, but timetable views still show it (annoying).

Given the start of the CDG flights is also mid July, likely that's the connection. Probably will end up with a situation of a mini 787 "hub" in PER in terms of the actual aircraft.

Well, mea culpa. As I wrote, the timetable view showed the 9/10 scheduled as daily. gah!
 
ET has just published an article on this suggesting the cut is due to aircraft shortage.

From July 14 2024, passengers heading from Melbourne to London will need to board a conventional domestic flight to connect with QF9 at Perth.

Confirming the change to Executive Traveller, Qantas noted that the same mid-July period also sees Melbourne-Los Angeles upgraded from a Boeing 787 to an Airbus A380 most days of the week (at the time of writing, the schedule shows an A380 on the route every day but Tuesday).

In other words, it’s all part of Qantas having to move jets around like pieces on a board – or perhaps more accurately, pieces in a jigsaw puzzle.

However, the seasonal Sydney-Perth-Rome service will retain a Boeing 787 all the way to the Eternal City, with Sydney-Perth-Paris also offering a 787 from the harbour to the Seine.
 
I seem to be observing there are a lot lot more outbound classic rewards than in bound. Have been monitoring since the release. Still a sh*tload of SYD-LAX but struggling to find anything on the return in W/J class for Jul-Sep. I'm not sure whether Qantas did this on purpose or if they've simply already been snapped up by tourists inbound to aus. Either way is quite annoying as I have outbound flights but can't find any decent inbounds in J from NA.

If you are travelling both directions inside the available offer period you would book an ex-Australian leg outbound early and a return from europe before the cut-off date

Who wants to go to europe for shorter than a week ??

That would leave A raft of orphan flights

1 Early in the offer period likely still available from Europe to Australia yet no rewards flights to get you to Europe in the first place !! Because you are likely to travel BEFORE the offer period opens…..
And
2 Later in the offer period likely still available from Australia to Europe
But nothing to get you back home after the offer period ends because they’re not on offer
 
Looking back now on this "50% off Points Plus Pay in premium cabins" promo, in light of this week's launch of Classic Plus, does it look to anyone else like Qantas may have been testing the waters here?

At 50% off, Points Plus Pay rewards are worth around 1.2 cents per point. Classic Plus in premium cabins now gets you 1.5 cents per point.
 
I was just thinking have I missed a dump of seats again?

I only want to use my points for J/F return classic rewards to LHR or upgrades on those routes.
