My niece had just won green card lottery to USA and had just landed high paying job consulting to oil companies in Houston so she joined me.

She is mad keen Magpie supporter and bought substription to ALL AFL Finals on internet for like $17 or something - so we set up computer in my room at like 3am or something to watch prelim final - ordered ice bucket from room service but they said 40 min delay - told them to jam it and used rubbish bin from room filled with ice from ice machine on floor - check the Moet in the exquisite ice bucket.

Ah Las Vegas - a world of it's own!

Oh one more point about Flamingo - you know where the restraurants are in back of Flamingo near pool - you know where they have that disgusting all you can eat buffet breakfast where the yank pensioners queue for like 2 hours at 6am to be first in - ok keep walking past ALL these restaurants till you get to rear exit - there is a set of toilets to left hand sice - inside male toilet in blown up to poster size copy of Benny 'Bugsy' Siegels death certificate - just found it by chance - was really interesting to look at.

If any of you guys get a chance - go look at it - unbelievable.

Has anyone stayed at the Westin on the Strip? What's it like?

I didn't even know there was one. What's it near?

I think there is one a block or so back, not on the strip but?

I did not long after it opened, maybe 8-9 years ago. Nice small gaming hotel but rooms are small, paper thin walls, two blocks (a brisk 5 mins) walk to the strip. If this is your first time to Vegas I'd stay at a hotel on the strip.

Yes - Stayed at the Westin about 1.5 - 2 months ago. It is not on the strip, but just off it on Flamingo Road, same side as the Flamingo (appropriately?). The walk to the Strip is super easy.

The Westin can be quite cheap, and it is okay, however as Globetrotter says, the doors between rooms mean that noise can sometimes carry and the casino is small/basic. However it is great as a family hotel, as you can get the joined-up rooms.

FWIW - I actually enjoy this hotel because

  • Ease of entry/exit from this hotel. It is very easy to get to and from the airport (taxi is dirt cheap)
  • I have never waited to check-in or out
  • Less of the crazy Vegas feel
  • SPG elites treated well

I would happily stay at the Westin again, however for a first time Las Vegas 'experience' I would be tempted to suggest one of the mega hotel casinos on the Strip... I guess it just depends what you want/need.

Personally I LOVE the tackiness and raw history of the flamingo - don't forget this is where it all basically started - nothing screeches Las Vegas like the Flamingo IMHO.

If I am alone - ALWAYS the Flamingo - if I am with Cruiserette well the new flash brash ones get a go.

But if travelling single - god I love the location of Flamingo.

I don't think I would stay there every time, but The Flamingo is certainly a living piece of history.

I am looking at going again close to Christmas, may stay here.

Flamingo's definitely got some history about it, but only enough to admire as I walk past back to the Bellago :)

I don't see many people recommending the Bellagio. Is it just due to the cost or does it have some issues?

It's very much suited to couples, and slightly less family or party orientated IMO... Absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel though.

I recommend it to almost every client who visits Vegas both because its a great property in one of the best locations on the strip and because with their Virtuoso rate it makes it a steal and with great inclusions.

I've been to Vegas 3x and each time a Bellagio and have no complaints.

Just checked into the Elara - great view in 1 bedroom suite overlooking Paris, Caesars, Westin and Ballys.

Boys are on their way from the airport now ;)

OK - El Verdict a la Elara.....

Excellent!

Great room - had a 1 bedroom with sofa bed and still extra room on the sofa. Massive hot tub in master bedroom, big bathroom, equipped kitchen, great floor to ceilings, projector screen etc etc.

Perfect location right behind Planet Hollywood and connects internally via Miracle Mile shops.

Really really liked the location. My friend stayed an extra night at Treasure Island and we explored that part of the strip on the last day. Very much prefer the PH block. Even the PH casino is nice.

Was very underwhelmed by MGM and didn't cross further south of that.

Back there on Sunday so will check out the Bellagio gaming floor then.....

54th floor at Elara.

BTW - loved the gaming floor at the Bellagio, and all the beautiful people were lining up to get into "the bank" club there.

I'm a DYKWIA - I don't do lines :)

Still quite like the Planet Hollywood gaming floor too.

Would easily stay at Elara again or try Bellagio for the right rate. Locations are just amazing.
