Last day as VA Platinum

I also fall today but I think you get a 1 month grace period. Since covid my flying has significantly reduced so 2023 will be the year of falling status for both airline and hotel programs. I had been platinum for around 12 years and I think the only thing I will miss is the free Y+ seating.
that's kind of sad because the gift that keeps on giving (your donation of Virgin Platinum) doesn't expire until June 2023

This was a key one for me, I personally do alot of trans con and much prefer a wide body on that route.

Plus I have a great hit rate with upgrades as well on the A330 which is bonus.
100% I've had pretty good upgrade rates with QF on the A330

Sounds like QF's $1,600-$1,700 coast-to coast business fares (checked today, random dates in future) might not be selling well?

I pick the unpopular business times for maximum chance and also try to avoid the FIFO dominated days - those miners, and QF has almost all the FIFO contracts now its hard to avoid them completely ;)

I do recall QF scheduling 1-2 extra A330s on the SYD/MEL to PER Transcons in the near future. Perhaps thats what may have pushed down the fares.

Although as stated, there's the chance of being bumped from J to Y if QF downgauges the A330 per usual. Although if departing from Qld, it's probably more ideal to go via SYD or MEL considering the BNE-PER route is largely all-737, low yielding VFR with some FIFO traffic.

Might have been a VA covid reset thing, as it now seems Feb is a big month for lots of VA plats. My review used to be end Sept, now it’s Feb and I will need consideration of some Mar bookings to get close to another year.

Yep similar story for me and sad to drop after maybe 8+ years! Might have the check out the parental pause option before the review period on 1 month expires…

Got my "thanks for travelling with us" and granted renewed platinum with 799 SC this morning. Funnily enough Flybuys started posting overnight and I ticked over to 803, so I actually didn't need the grace...but anyway, I guess it doesn't really matter how it happens, just that it did..

Been a VA Platinum member for the past 10 years but will drop down to Gold from tomorrow. Have switched business to Qantas as SYD-PER isn't much fun on a 737 and VA no longer flies their own aircraft to LAX. I plan to maintain Gold as still see merit and value.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Yep - me. Status-matched over from QF as an SG in the great-status-match-of-2012 . Never looked back once - VA looked after me really well for these past 10 years and it was mostly easy to make and retain Plat. Those were a lot of good years: many points upgrades to J on the 777 and even two op-ups from PE. A reasonable number of Dom J upgrades. Very responsive to any complaints and many instances of good compo received, whether points or flight vouchers. COVID changed my attitude quiet a bit from the typically enthusiastic point-and-status-chasing FF to almost "I couldn't be bothered anymore". Well, maybe it's a good thing who knows.

Annoyingly my review date is now 13 March 2024. Will have to call, as I planned flights on the 10th and 12th to make most of double sc. And I did infact earn over 800 up to 28 Feb, but now have a 13 March date so the flights from the weekend are in no man's land...ought to be an interesting phone call.

Edit: just realised I've not had any Flybuys for Feb either...

my goodness, I'll add to the silliness.

I maintained my WP by 12th Feb, went into a 2 week review process, yes took VA 2 weeks to review my status credits & sectors over previous 12 moths.
Now after reading @Must...Fly! post I checked my details, coincidently received my new WP card in mail today which states Review date 26th Feb 2024, yet my account on velocity website says my review date is my original 12th Feb.

Really what's going on VA...must've recruited some QF lackies.

just spoke to VA about it, there's 30 days over review period you can use lounge etc which we / I know about, but never tested it. Then was told there's 14 days review period which is added to review date on card, so it's 30 days & 14 days having same entitlements, hmm whatever.

Didn't VA cards used to to indicate review date & an expiry date?? Now just have a review date which is actually incorrect according to actual review date on velocity app which matches VA records.

Why mess with something that's not broken....WHY.

My account no longer says under review, but no other changes. I guess I'll get flicked down to gold in due course (had the sectors, but fell short on the SCs)

So it seems the old 30 days is now 14 days?

I'll call tomorrow afternoon and update. Surely they'll apply those status credits against this year... Considering I actually earned 800 by my review date.
