What strategy do people use for last minute hotel bookings? Like flying into a city in the afternoon with no hotel reservation... is there a favored method to finding cheaper last minute rates?
Have signed up for the Hotel Tonight app as it seems to be what I'm looking for but haven't used it yet.
Not looking for any chain specific deals, just discounted last minute rates for a night.
Thanks for any info/tips/tricks

Make a short list of hotels which fit your location & other requirements and just ring them direct. Ask them what discount / rate you can get if you book direct with them for that night. If they have spare rooms they will likely discount them heavily. No good trying to book online because hotels won't display the best rates available there so that they don't upset booking agents.

Some of the time websites such as LastMinute.com.au, Agoda etc may have good last minute deals.

I usually prefer to stay with IHG, and find even on the night I can find cheap deals through their website, as prices usually drop in the week leading up to a stay. If there's a room free, they'll want to get something for it...
