Premium Economy

An additional row of 8 seats to be added, increasing the number of W seats to 40 - which is what will be installed on Pacific configured 747-400s. I understand Rows 40/41 would be removed and replaced with the 8 W seats. This would result in a more consistent Y+ offering across the 747-400 fleet.

AFAIK, 5 aircraft currently feature Premium Economy, with more aircraft to have the seating installed shortly.

747-300s MEL-AKL-LAX vv

It appears that once again Qantas will operate 743 equipment on QF25/26. Unsure when this is expected to happen, however I'd imagine it will occur sometime after June/July, when the aircraft slowly begin being removed from PER transcontinental services.

Rumour - A330-200s for SYD-HNL

Heading explains it all.. speculation suggests further 763s will be converted from the International Dreamtime configuration to the Domestic Millennium config, with the 767-300s from SYD-HNL being reallocated to domestic duties and A330-200s taking over on SYD-HNL duties.

Qantas return to NGO

Once again, heading explains it all... the rumour mill is working overtime in this particular case with Qantas expected to announce a return of 767 services to NGO from CNS, and on select days, from SYD.

Operational Changes

As many of you will be well aware, due to maintenance requirements, Qantas has had to cancel a number of services for the period to 13JUN. BNE-LAX for example is currently not a daily service (as it was recently increased to) and is operating 6x weekly (no TUE service). Other cancellations include QF149/150 and QF179/180. Changes to QF127/128 include 333 services on SATs (J/Y offering only) and adhoc 2-class 744 services.

Expect further changes up until/during/and after A380 deliveries commence.

3/4-class 744s on AKL-LAX

After a quick glance at the QF25 route history summary, it becomes apparent that a number of MEL-AKL-LAX-AKL-MEL services are being operated by 3-class 747-400s and the odd 4-class (with Y+) 744. A summary is included below (latest flight is first):

Code:
VH-OEH (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4777 07MAY08
VH-OJF (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4829 05MAY08
VH-OJF (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4829 03MAY08
VH-OJN (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4831 02MAY08
VH-OEB (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4771 30APR08
VH-OJK (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C482E 25APR08
VH-OEB (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4771 23APR08
VH-OJL (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C482F 18APR08
VH-OEB (B744 QFA) QF0025 (MEL-AKL-LAX) 7C4771 16APR08

This can be attributed to 2-class 744 maintenance...

Flight Number Changes

Remember Qantas will be introducing new flight numbers on a number of routes with effect of the NW08/09 schedules. More information here.

Given that they are presumably not far from retirement, I wouln't see skybeds being installed in them

That to me seems and odd route to use those old planes. I guess they must have good range on the fuel etc... and very high loadings of holiday passangers. Oh well i guess QF are the only ones who know the reasons.
Can't want for the A380's i am sure !

I just looked up some flights in december MEL-PER as i have 3 trips there and i see the 743 flights are replaced with the A330-200's. Pity, I quite liked flying upstairs over to PER!

I can think of 215 reasons why they would put a 743 on this sector rather than a 332.

Been waiting a long time for this news. Sure hope it's true. (where is your info from???) I figured it had to happen eventually but the shortage of suitable aircraft made it unlikely. Probably when they get the 4th Skybed 332 it will be possible to slot it in. (and post Beijing Olympics) Current ticket price HNL return is around $10k (sometimes discount fare is around $7k+) in J which is an absolute farce, but even more ridiculous given it is on an old Dreamtime 763. Those paying it complain to QF mightily (including me). Whilst HNL is primarily a leisure market, it has a lot of high-end leisure and there is substantial business traffic as well as OW RTW traffic who are all sick of the coughpy aircraft for the long 10 hour flight.

Just flew SQ to ZRH for $2000 less than any ticket I could get on QF and of course it was direct not via LHR or FRA. Great seat and service that made QF product look ordinary, kinda makes you wonder sometimes. Imagine having forked out $12k for a J ticket to LAX via AKL only to find yourself on a Dreamtime 743, I would be very

You'd be annoyed if you had paid for skybed J on MEL-LAX and chosen QF25/26 for whatever reason and end up with a non-skybed seat. Surely on such flights the equitable thing for QF to do is to sell the seat for less.

That's funny :D But I am not laughing :!:

That, and I've been trying to tone it down a little lately. Seems I've developed a reputation for being a little "arrogant".

I couldn't believe it either ;), but there you go...

On my first DONE4 I was on an AKL-LAX flight on a 743 - I was thankfully expecting so didnt get annoye on board - other pax were very much less than happy...

I went a 332 on QF25 yesterday in Y. I must say it's a LOT quieter than a 744/743 in terms of engine noise and airconditioning. Much more pleasant flight.

The only thing that sucks is it's difficult to cross between the two aisles, where as the 747's have plenty of access to do 'laps' to stretch ones legs or get to the empty bathroom on the other aisle.

Do the new A330's being delivered have skybed 1.0 or 2.0?

Original Skybeds in all Skybed equipped A330s. Its only the A380 that is planned for the next generation Skybed II. There are no published plans to retro-fit Skybed Mk II into 747 or A330 fleets. And any such move would result in a reduction of seating capacity since the horizontal nature of the Skybed Mk II requires more floor real estate.

I would never complain in the near future about Skybed Mk1, they are great :) and well fantastic when you compare to some of the other airlines.
It would be a great start just to get skybeds on ALL international flights + the SYD/MEL/BNE-PER flights.
