Could any of the knowledgeable QF folk here please advise earliest possible check-in time for QF94 sch dep 22:15?

Looks like 4pm to me

Check-inCheck-in counters are located in Aisle B of the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
Early check-in^ opens at 4pm for evening Qantas departures. Full-service check-in opens at 6pm.
Online Check-in is available for Qantas international flights (QF1-199), and other eligible connecting flights operated by oneworld, partner and codeshare airlines. Online Check-in opens 24 hours before your flight departure and closes 2 hours before international flight departures.

It's just that the full separation of First/Business/Economy check-in desks might not be available. I didn't notice much of a difference. Check-in at ca 4:30pm was a breeze.

In practice, I've arrived at LAX check-in around 5ish, never seen it open. Staff begin to appear about 5:30/6:00. But that's based on 2 recent experiences in the last 12 months. My flight arrives from O/S generally about 4:00-4:30pm.

Others may have a more experience and detail.

"Early" check in at LAX is just 2 or 3 counters accepting baggage and issuing boarding passes. No assistance with ticketing, rebooking, etc. When normal check in opens, there are more agents, more counters and full ticketing etc assistance.

Tks so much for so many speedy responses - greatly appreciated - and now to the 2 really really important questions - what Champs and Reds offered in QF F Lounge pls?

I was on QF96 this time last year and there was quite a queue waiting for check in at 4pm at the Qantas desk

But did they open at 4pm?

To note that even with limited check-in desks there was still the regular queue system based on ticket class or FF status.

Last time I used it (July 4), I was in the J/status line ~4.20 and was next up when someone in the Y line loudly said that they had been here longer then me and cut in front.

They did but they faffed around for a while first - think the J line was longer than Y

My recent checkin experience at end of July had them open abt 4-405pm. Only one other in the priority checkin q. No bag drop at all for qf. Had to be counter drop by joining q. Very long wait though after that to go through security.

A week ago - 4pm.

Staff arrive and have to put out all the QF signage and bring in their tags and stationary. Korean Air sign was still on the TV behind when I got there about 4.15pm.

So, if wanting to do early check-in... plan to arrive around 4:30pm?

Simple!

Well it's personal preference as those 2-4 QF agents check in all of the~ 900 (less anyone with inline luggage checked) pax on Aust bound flights that night. MEL BNE SYD etc and also how long you want to spend in the lounge too

Hence the word "wanting".

I must say our check-in at ca 4:30pm was fine and very friendly. Then about 30mins later we made it to the Flounge. And the time just disappeared after then... with some meals, showers, shopping and relaxation.

As of 01 Sep all QF ports in the US will have a heavier workload as they will need to check in pax who are arriving into the gateway city on a separate AA ticket as AA will no longer through check to QF unless on the same ticket.

Previously if you were flying AA ORD/LAX booked via aa.com then connecting on QF LAX/SYD booked via qantas.com, AA would've through checked the pax from ORD to SYD so the pax wouldn't need to see QF at LAX at all as AA has done the work for them.
