Not sure if this is in the right spot, if not, please move.

Ivwas wondering if anyone knew whether its possible at LAX to buy a MacBook duty free? I don't suppose anyone knows if the discount is decent?

Cheers!

Not much margin in Apple products for dealers they say, better off buying in OZ, think if you take out of Aust can claim GST back. Myer had $100 off last week.

I bought one off Amazon and had it delivered to my hotel. Also bought the 2 year worldwide extended warranty (which for a virtual product has a $100 cheaper list price than in Aus!), so much cheaper than Aus not even looking at duty free! Think I saved in the region of $700 at least but would have to look back at receipts.

I looked at doing this for a macbook pro. Ended up being cheaper walking into dse and haggling for a 10% discount off retail (you could get another 10% off if there were enough people flying so that the duty free allowance covered the value and you could then claim the GST back on the way out).

I've never seen apple products in a duty free store that were cheap enough to be worth the hassle of international warranty claims etc.

Don't know about mac books but i was in vegas last year and picked an ipad2 32gig 3g up $140 cheaper than Apple stores were selling them here and i picked this one up at an Apple store in Vegas

Straight off the Apple .au and .com websites the Macbook Pro differential is about $300 US when you add in the Apple Care protection and if you have a look around the web the differential could be up around $500 US.
