Yep. The first time I stopped in LA, I was going from the Greyhound station (had spent a few days with a friend in the CA central valley) and was staying in Santa Monica. Found out from the staff at the station which bus I needed and where the stop was, then spent the hour on the bus talking to the driver and getting ideas for places to go and things to do. Then at the end, he told me how to get from the stop to the hostel I was staying in.I'll stand up for the LA bus system. It is not like Sydney or Melbourne but I use it extensively when there, particularly Santa Monica - West Hollywood - Downtown. If they go where I want to go I'm in! And it is an eye opening experience. I have had the best conversations with helpful drivers and my fellow travellers on the buses.
Last time I had a stop over in LA, I was staying in a hotel near union station downtown, so just got the flyaway bus to/from LAX.
