I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times but I searched for it and couldn't find anything (which I'm sure is down to doing a 'male' search)

Anyway, I'm flying LAX-BNE in J and wanted to know what lounge/s I'll have access to at LAX. I'm silver status. Not sure if it makes a difference but I'm flying into LAX on Delta J the same day. I'm assuming because I'm only arriving with them that I won't have access to their lounge.

Thanks in advance

If you are flying out on VA J, then you have access to the Star Alliance lounge in TBIT.

First of all - lucky you! Anyone flying Business from USA to Australia is very special indeed. I hope the flight is a memorable one for you. As posted above, you will have access to the Star Alliance Lounge at Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX. From all reports, very swish and comfortable. We experience this in August, so I will be so excited to document our departure day.

Secondly, make sure you write a trip report please. There are so many of us who have never had the good fortune to sample the delights of J class travel/International Lounge access, so your feedback is essential to keep the dream alive for the rest of us.

Have a fantastic time and take lots of photos!

just to add a question to this.

flying VA8 on Sep 3rd by which point I will be Gold or Plat if my delta SC from the previous day credit quickly (unlikely).
Is it possible to guest my wife and two daughters into the Virgin lounge? I will have a couple of Velocity passes on my card from velocity amex and from being silver.

Velocity passes are only good for VA domestic lounges.

Unfortunately even if your SC's post I think your children would count as guests, so you won't be able to guest everyone in.

VA8 is LAX-BNE, so I am assuming you mean the corresponding departure Lounge at LAX, which is Star Alliance hosted by Air New Zealand. Gold members can guest one person. If you're still Silver, it will then depend on the class you are flying - however you can buy a day pass into the Lounge for what I reckon is a reasonable fee.

Yeah I must admit i am really looking forward to it. Especially considering it's the new business class aircraft so would love to see how it compares to the old style which I flew into LA.

But I'll make sure I take plenty of photos and post them up!

clipped_wings I just did a return on VA J bne-lax. Had the new seats going out and old coming back. Not a fan of the old seats, Crew said it was the last plane needing the refurbishment. New seats reminded me a of AA seats. It's a little tight getting in and out. But nice in terms of ability to spread out. Foot space is lacking. Especially if you are tall. Ok when bed is done by sitting up it was tight. My seat had some issues. Jessictam was on flight and tried to chat but my screen/remote would not work. Cabin Manager was quite nice about letting me invite her up to bar, though. Bar area is much nicer on new configuration vs old. More spacious with actually seats vs just stools.
I did not take many pictures, I have a foot shot if you are interested.
I will avoid VA internationally moving forward. I am glad I tried it. Back back to QF and UA I go.
I am lucky that I can do J, and IMO, VA is nice but not worth the premium. Cabin crew was fantastic. But ground staff was horrible and given the fact they are not quite sure where my bags are at the moment, I am done.

I was told by their ground staff in BNE they have issue with baggage connections in LA.

The Star Alliance Lounge in LA is nice. They have a nice outdoor terrace. Food was interesting. Nothing special. But it beats sitting in the gate area.

Family flew back from LAX to BNE June 2015 was able to use I think it was Air NZ lounge in Tom Bradley. As it was a late flight we could enjoy food and drinks (especially the children) on offer before flight. We found it quite comfortable, quite and relaxing before the long journey home. I find Virgin ground and flight staff very good compared to Qantas.
