LAX Transit time (different PNR)

Hi All.I'm transiting via LAX (coming from LAS on AA) landing 7:30a to a CX flight at 9:30a.These are separate tickets (due to work vs pleasure)1. Is that enough time to transfer?2. Can I check my bags through from LAS since it is all one-world?Appreciate the advice.Cheers.

Separate tickets it is unlikely your bags will be checked though from LAS. This is since a change of rules about a year ago, even AA to oneworld.

In which case you arrive at LAX, collect bags, head land-side and down to TBIT and recheck your bags with CX, then go back through security.

I would not do such a 2 hour connection on separate tickets even without checked luggage.

2 hours is enough time, provided the LAS-LAX flight is on time. It might become tight if it is an Eagle flight which then uses the remote terminal (and then requiring a bus to T5).
There are 4 possible scenarios for LAX arrival.
AA flight arrives at TBIT (AA has 1st right of use to 4 gates at TBIT). This would be the quickest connection, but also most unlikely.
Mainline flight, arrive T4. T4 is next to TBIT, shortest walk.
Mainline flight, arrive T5.
Eagle flight, arrive T5 remote "Eagle's nest" gates. In this case, you'd have a bus to T5 first.

2. Can I check my bags through from LAS since it is all one-world?

After changes to oneworld policy last year, AA won't check through across PNRs. If one PNR is an award, it may be possible, but it seems that AA has added requirements to do that.
You'll need to collect bags and walk over to TBIT to check in with CX.
In the TBIT check in area, look up stairs to the main TSA checkpoint. If that looks busy, head downstairs to arrivals and use the connections checkpoint which outs you into the T4-TBIT airside connector and closer to the QF F lounge.

2 h of transit is risky if they don't interline your baggage. I have just done 2 domestic flights with AA last week. In both occasions, it took more than 1 h to recover my checked baggage. They would only use one conveyor bell for all incoming flights.

Its a cough shoot. Ive been at the domestic gate in 40mins but last time it took us almost 2.5+hrs and we just made our connecting flight, and that was with the same PRN/bags checked through (still had to collect bags/take them to transit).

You will be pushing it! I did a recent YUL-PHL-LAX (AA) then LAX-BNE (QF) on separate tickets. I tried via Twitter to see if the bags could be interlined but received a polite no. It was a 4+ hour layover in LAX which I was a bit nervous with due to this. in the end, the flight left YUL on time and arrived in PHL on time. The original booking was a 40 min layover here but flight changes by AA meant this changed to a much more comfortable 2.5 hour layover. Then the flight from PHL arrived 30 mins late into LAX after an apparent late aircraft swap and congestion at PHL, about 30 mins wait for bags at T4, a 5-10 min walk to TBIT to check bags with QF - no queue even with PS/QP status - then 30 mins to clear security. So around 2 hours lost there! A few glasses of bubbles in the One World lounge were then in order. The irony of it all was the QF flight left almost an hour late due to late arriving crew!

You profile indicates WP so if still on the 9:30am CX flight just note the TBIT QF First lounge does not open until 6:30am.

I would have thought that early in the morning the flights should be reasonably on time, particularly if they overnight at LAS. The problem comes with (a) collecting bags and (b) TSA security. The lines for security can be very long, and may or may not move quickly. You should allow at least an hour for security to be on the safe side. Priority lanes (other than for Pre-check) don't always exist, or may not be clearly marked (easy to miss).

Four hours is a good buffer for early morning. Later in the day (midday onwards) even that might be pushing it with flow on effects of bad weather elsewhere in the network.
