Let's Buy Qantas Shares

Maybe if the staff owned a certain % of QF they would be more willing to make the hard decisions to make it more competitive... As investors they might also be recompessed for making those sacrifices with dividends (hopefully)???

Under our Australian corporation rules you can get to 19.99% of a listed company without triggering a takeover. You then can creep 3% every 6 months to get to 25% so it would take 12 months for a group acting together to hold a quarter of Qantas shares.

Why didn't they propose similar back in 2006? admittedly they'd have needed significantly more cash to do so!
And the reality is, if they even started pursuing this option, the knowledge someone wants XX% of the company's shares will drive the price up automatically. There are less public means for them to achieve this.

Be interesting to know who they would appoint to the board in this case.

DaveB we have way more Qantas points than SQ points because Kris points expire.
I have many points warehoused in Citi and Westpac to avoid the expiry.
E Trade is ok but I use Comsec and several brokers (but no QFF points).
Don't get too long on airline shares as they are not "investment quality".

Sorry Cove for being a victim of my deadpan humour, always delivered with too much of the former and none of the latter!!

Imagine the fireworks if they nominated Steve Purvinas.

QAN shares moved up a little and maybe I should have bought more or is it a dead cat bounce with a plunge to follow.
Then you start thinking about a price that you would be happy to sell.

Up 3.5%.

Planning on buying some this morning depending on the price after the opening auction.

Now up almost 10% you start thinking why didn't we buy an extra million QAN shares?

It is always nice to buy shares near the bottom and then you get tempted to sell them off to take a profit on the turn.
There are now more buyers than sellers as sentiment about a crisis fades away.

The bottom was difficult to predict. The recovery is going to be just as difficult to predcit.

Need some changes at QF quickly.

I took the easy profit on this turn so I only have a six figure amount left from the previous low.
The current QAN price is ridiculously low but that doesn't mean that it will change quickly any time soon.
I just chose to trade some this time as there are lots of reasons why you should not own airline shares.

I want to buy shares in that company that ends up owning airlines, Korda Mentha :)

Share price under $1 and supply slowing would be the "perfect storm" to buy QF shares I think. Probably not much chance of them dipping under $1 though. Wait for the announcement on the 27th I guess.

I think there is a 50% chance that Qantas shares will rise on the restructure but there may be a share issue attached to it.

NO - now is the time to buy.

I think buy now while they are low because even if the QF cuts announced this week are bad, lots of routes going and jobs going, that is the type of news the market likes to hear. That will be a pick up for QF and then if the Govt steps up with a debt guarantee this will really jack the share price back up and again if the credit companies upgrade QF stock back up from junk.

I would think the shares will go up on Thursday with the announcement of saving lots of money. And then it would be a good time to sell, IMO.
